Nella foto di stasera un piccolo uccello di passaggio , fotografato a bocca di Serchio a Marina di Vecchiano ( PI ) . Tra qualche giorno riparte per zone più calde . La femmina in abito nuziale assomiglia al maschio ma avendo le zone nere di petto, collo gola e guance screziate di bianco. Maschi e femmine sono indistinguibili in natura in abito invernale che è caratterizzato dalle parti superiori su base grigia chiara suffusa di fulvo chiaro e fitte macchiettature nerastre. Le parti inferiori sono bianco sporco con soffusa screziatura marrone sul petto. Zampe, becco e zona ascellare rimangono neri. In tutte le stagioni maschi e femmine hanno la parte terminali delle ali nerastre con una evidente barra alare bianca. Si può osservare spesso associata in stormi con il piovanello pancianera. Si alimenta caminando sul terreno con poca acqua cercando piccoli invertebrati. Grey Plover Pluvialis squatarola (Linnaeus, 1758) Bird of small to medium-sized member of the order Charadriiformes. Dimensions. Length 28-30 cm, wingspan 59-65 cm Appearance. The male in wedding dress has a light gray-white color with a thick blackish speckles in the upper parts. It can be observed in flocks often associated with the dunlin. It feeds on the ground walking with a little water looking for small invertebrates.
