Description
When the Lamb opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, "Come and see!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse! Its rider held a pair of scales. Then I heard what sounded like a voice among the four living creatures, saying, "A quart of wheat for a day's wages, and three quarts of barley for a day's wages, and do not damage the oil and the wine!"
- Revelation 6:5-6
In this passage, the price of grain (what a family needs to survive) is about ten times normal. The price of oil and wine (luxury items) is not changed. The poor and the working class starve; the wealthy are protected. So it is ever thus.
I could do a lot more with this image, but sometimes, minimalism is best. Symbolism matters to me. There's a lot of subtle context here.
