Description

We are back home, a quick post and I will be catching up on my comments tonight. Naples, Florida is only 163 miles (262.3 km) from our home but the plant life is a world apart. This is a Pandanus fruit growing on what they call a Pandanus Palm but Wikipedia says they are not closely related to palm trees and there are about 600 known species plus this is an Old World plant. This fruit is about 8 inches (20cm) in diameter and have many prism-like sections, resembling the fruit of the pineapple. They grow up to 20 feet (6 meters) tall, typically with a broad canopy and moderate growth rate. The fruit of only a few species are edible for humans. Mosty eaten by animals including bats, rats, crabs, elephants and monitor lizards. I do realize that there are no elephants and monitor lizards in south west Florida. Info from Wikipedia. Zoom works. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favs and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana
