Dido was the prettiest, best woman in all of Carthage...maybe even the world, as far as Bacchus was concerned. His favorite sight was to see her coming toward him bounding up on tiptoe, her arms and face raised with that beautiful smile she always wore. She was originally from Byblos, and hated it here. She often complained that Carthage was becoming more and more of a hole full of mercenaries, cutthroats and pirates who had no scruples at all about anything. She was right and he didn't think it would be too hard to talk her into leaving. He had an older sister and younger brother in Rabat, and besides life just wouldn't be the same never seeing Ba'al again. It was bad enough that he only got to see him once every year or two, but he'd learned to live with that. He missed Azdrubaal, who was more like a brother to him than any of his brothers of blood. He wondered about this woman Ba'al had taken up with. Was she like his own little sweetheart? He guessed he'd soon see for himself. He still couldn't believe Azdrubaal was in love with a real woman and not the one called the sea. He closed up the shop and went into the back room, where Dido sold her herbs, tapestries and pottery wares. She heard him coming and rushed to meet him. "At last! What a long day and so many customers. How are you, my lovely man? What were you and Ba'al upstairs talking about for so long?" She gave him a kiss and hugged him tight. "You wouldn't want to take me to dinner would you?" Dido looked up at him with those big eyes and batted her lashes. "It has been a long day. I'll tell you while we eat...that is if we can get a seat in the corner. Otherwise it'll have to wait until we come home." Bacchus pushed the hair back from her shoulder and whispered in her ear. "It's a secret. Just let me go change clothes." "I have a secret too," Dido said coyly. "What's that, my little dove?" "We're going to be parents!" "Aye?!" She'd been wanting this for a year now. "That's wonderful news!
