Description

Since several of you seem to like my angels, I decided I would post one and I may post a few more whilst I figure out how I'm going to get the crew from Carthage to Rabat graphically speaking. For those who are familiar with the 'Fallen Angels', this is the one named Shemyaza, or Shem as some of my friends call him. This is my version of him and there is a whole backstory with him. He's the one who took all the blame heaped upon them for everything the worst. The Fallen Angels are many things. One of the things that they seem to be are the old gods before the monotheistic religions took hold. While Azazel is fairly clearly a male version of Ishtar (there's a story about that too) as the Morning Star, it's questionable as to whether Shemyaza is the Evening Star - Azazel's 'twin', or the god Tammuz/Dumuzi, who was Ishtar's consort. Tammuz (Babylonian) or Dumuzi (Sumerian) was the god of vegetation and he died every year only to be reborn again the next year...like the vegetation. He was a also shepherd god of beasts of the flocks and herds. There's a myth about that and all in all, he comes off as a tragic figure in Sumero-Babylonian myths and much subject to Ishtar's whims. He gets blamed for a lot of stuff, including the 'fall' of the angels as the one who incited them to come down to earth from heaven. In the Books of Enoch, he is listed as one of the main leaders of the Fallen along with Azazel. As the god of sheep, goats, cattle, and deer, I also tend to think that he is part of the development of the 'Horned God' and an earlier Poser 5 version of him is seen in my "King of the Wood" (Herne) picture on my homepage. I like this version of him better. Because he was predominantly and originally the god of the barley or barley-corn, his hair is flaxen and his eyes are green. A more recent version of him exists in 'John Barleycorn' or the ancient 'Corn King'. I decided to make him happy in this image, which is meant to be sometime shortly after they come down to earth. He chases a bird through the forest trying to catch it, enchanted by this little creature that like him can fly. This is how I like to see him. ***** Thanks for stopping by and your comments and favorites dear friends. Hope I didn't bore you ;) Hmmm, technically there is nothing showing that should get this a nudity rating.... We'll see. And no, he has no navel. He's an angel! It's Friday. Have a good one! Cheers, Rayvn

I must be good to be reborn each year, no reason to be sad to go then... I like his face full of kindness and joy! Great narrative, the Mesopotamian myths and legends are so rich. Well done, dear friend.

Then a moment of joy indeed. Very interesting info. I'm becoming so much more interested in those ancient myths and how all the old tales are altered, twisted and retold as 'real' and 'new' for modern religion's sake. Great image, his expression is great, and tragic once you know he will not hold this joy for too long. Excellent depiction.
