Description

Enki was the first-born son of Anu, the ruler of the gods. He was later known as Ea in Akkadian and Babylonian mythology. He was the very wise councilor of both the Sumerian and Babylonian gods as well as the god of craftsmen, deep waters, mischief and cunning, intelligence and creation. He has many other names, including the Great Serpent and the Great Stag. His animal symbols are the goat and fish, which were combined to form the creature known as the 'goat-fish' or Capricornus. This is a creature that is at home on both land and sea and Enki's favorite environment were marshes, which are a bit of both. His favorite pastime is sailing through the marshlands on his boat the Ibex. As the Great Stag, he is Capricorn who ushers in the New Year and the returning light of spring. (See my "The Lightbringer" picture.) Enki was the creator and teacher of mankind, plants, animals, birds and fish, along with Ninhursag, the Lady of the Mountain and a few of their daughters. He's also the father and grandfather of several of the younger gods. Being the Lord of Creation, he's a bit of a randy sort and was often chastised for his romantic ventures, but he is also the most sympathetic of the great gods of the Anunnaki. When everyone else fails to help, Enki always comes to the rescue. In spite of all that, he is much respected and beloved by his fellow gods and always the wisest of the wise. His name translates as "Lord of the Earth", however it was his younger brother Enlil/Ellil who became the Lord of the Gods and the affairs of mankind, when Dad (Anu) just sort of 'retires' to go play celestial golf or something. That's never quite explained how that happens, but there is always a sort of 'congenial enmity' between the brothers. Enki prefers to keep things on an even keel and running smoothly, true to his nature. Enki is also the father of Dumuzi/Tammuz who is 'featured' in my last picture (sort of), "A Moment of Joy". Roxy, I couldn't find the other one I spoke of but I did find this one I'd made of him in P5. I hope you like him, hon :) He's decorated with fractals, mostly and a bit of fish-net. ***** Enjoy the weekend. Trick or treat and party safe, and thanks for looking friends! Rayvn

The more you know the more you know you don't know very much. I did not know the Capricorn connection but it makes perfect sense given Enki's connection with marshes. Whose a father, who's a husband, a lover or a brother, it is very hard to sort these things out and in fact the storys were rewritten so many times in so many cities over such a long period of time it really is impossible to sort out and it doesn't really matter anyways. Their eternal truths are what matters. You give us many of those truths here, including that Enki was always willing to help out. When the other Gods turned their backs on Ishtar when she was trapped in Ereshkigal's domain it was Enki who sent Isamud to bail her out and strike the deal that saved her. He had a great library and his city Eridu probaby had the first great library in the world. Thank you for this dedication. As you point out mine is a much older version than yours, but in the end they are timeless.

Oh he is sooo beautiful! And what is really very kewl is how the colors kinda tease gently around him and exemplify textures, mood lighting--making him more ethereal and beautiful! Funny too how your description so aptly fits the character depicted here. You managed to incorporate all those concepts into one smouldering hawt image! LOVE--IT! And I also love Cappys although they always laid my heart to waste (I am a Scorpio--ahhhh! LOL)...MUAH to Capricorns:-)

Brilliant work, Rayvn. Love your interpretation of his appearance, and especially the fish scales. The fractals and that expression make him appear truly god-like. I think the old boy would approve! Nice to see the attached notes, too. The background adds meaning to the image, and puts it in context. Bravo!

Magnificent image. Love the lighting and detail. Especially that so slightly scaly skin. Cool, we share the same zodiac. Excellent effects and love all the info. Anu probably got called back to his home planet and had to leave Enki in charge ;)
