Description

Wildflower hunt, March 26th, 2010 continued... The first image is of more White Prickly Poppies, this time on a private road leading to someone's ranch. Pretty nice driveway, especially when the poppies come to call. The second image was taken on US-87 not far out of San Antonio. A sea of bluebonnets and a tree. This next bit is for readers who love reading about history. I have just started a really interesting book that I heard about on NPR (National Public Radio). It is "The Swerve: How the World Became Modern" by Stephen Greenblatt. I bought it about a month ago, but I was reading some other books so I sat it aside. But I was really interested in the subject matter and besides, it was staring at me. So I started it last Friday, and it is fascinating. It is about the discovery by Poggio Bracciolini of a copy of a lost poem by Lucretius, "On the Nature of Things" that had been lost for more than a thousand years. This story has everything, a discovery that would have major effects on Western thought, fascinating dips into the history of ancient Rome and medieval Europe, and some wonderful characters straight out of real life. And it's written by a scholar who knows how to tell a good tale. Really marvelous stuff! Thanks for viewing and for previous comments and favs!

Nice show, the first trees and I love the way a photo that speaks for itself, the second reminds me of a field of lavender. Reading enriches us and gives us much the same time the dream but a reality which is always my Beatiful .

Love those barren trees in the top foto, and the stark silhouetting in the bottom shot. All this is very nice, Lucinda, but I want you to say "white prickly poppies and bluebonnets" as fast as you can fifty times.

My friend this is truely lovely. The purple tones on the second image looks so gorgeous! Inviting places. I love how the colors marble together, I could set there for hours just taking in all the amazing beauty. Marvelous photos Lucinda!

First of all Lucinda, these images are both so beautiful. Just love the variety of colors in both, and the green that will soon be gone thanks to winter rolling in. It was also nice to you to put us on to that book. It sounds fascinating, and one that I'd very much like to read myself.

The white is pretty. But I LOVE the bluebonnets. Sounds like a good book. Maybe I can borrow it some day.

Nice driveway with poppies and trees but the field of blue bonnets really knocks it out of the park. The bit of green in the distance works very well as a dividing line between the blue flowers and the cloudless blue sky. And the tree is just right of center gicing the picture a more dynamic feeling. As for history, the pagan world was both sexually and intellectually freer than present day western civilization. The tolerance of different views by the Greeks and Romans (as long as you didn't challenge the government) lead to all sorts of advances. The rise of monotheism set back human development which we are still working to overcome.

I like the bottom pic, I've yet to see a field of flowers like that here. It's all wheat, canola, or prairie grass.

Really great pictures, Lucinda. So very much I would like to see this in real life, or much bigger. It must be an overwhelming experience to be 'in' it. What a strong blue line is in the second picture, as I love the tree and that wooden pole on the right. Just perfect to give the picture a strong depth and a special accent. I also love the branches on the first pic, the bent form. Hugs my friend, and thanks for sharing.

A beautiful collection from texas Lu...as for NPR book reviews...I've found them all fascinating and have several books that I am digitally 'standing in line for' at the library due to listening to NPR. One of them only has 61 other people in front of me for two copies...here's hoping the library buys more:)

Oh my!! Aren't those spectacular!! They blend so wonderfully together. You have totally changed my impression of how I pictured Texas. Your book sounds fascinating. My kind of book. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for the tip.

You have to ask yourself this question - aren't these roads so much nicer to follow, than the concrete ones, of tar and cement? Natures tracks are just so much more promising of adventure and surprises, something different around every bend! a sight to behold, Lucinda BB

Really lovely shots Lucinda! Those look like Mesquite with the White Poppies? Adore the lower shot for not only the colorful display but the composition too!
