Description

Wildflower hunt, March 26th, 2010 continued... My friend and I spent some time communing with the blue bonnets (see my last post) and then I dropped her off at her home and set out on my quest to find more wildflowers. There is a site (http://lone-star.net/wildflowers/sightings.htm) where people post if they have seen wildflowers. There had been a good sighting of phlox at a church in Cheapside, TX. That is about 80 miles east of San Antonio, so I had charted a route, on the back roads to get there. I enjoy charting routes. I don't always follow them, especially when they are onto farm roads which I sometimes can't find, but I like charting them just the same. I was only two miles east of Loop 410 when I saw a field of mostly White Prickly Poppies. I like this picture best of the ones I took. If you look closely, you can see cattle in the field further on. San Antonio has two loop roads around it, Loop 410 and an outer loop road, 1604. Development in the city is almost exclusively taking place in the northern part of the city. The area between 410 and 1604 in the northeast, north central, and northwest, is totally developed. The city is now creeping ever further north beyond Loop 1604. The area south of the city, once you get outside of Loop 410, is sparsely populated. Loop 1604 is a major highway in the north and often a parking lot during rush hour. In the south, it is a two-lane road going through farmland. Thanks for viewing and for previous comments and favs!

Yes, I see the cattle, and it's a very beautiful and special landscape you've captured, Lucinda. I love the dead trees in it, such decorative. And then the contrasting with those beautiful and lively Poppies. It's such great what you show us here, my friend.

Good lawd, Lucinda, I live on Foster Road and no way does it look like this. It's a residential neighborhood with no prickly poppies or fallen trees. But it does have its share of inane graffiti. It is a wide street with very little traffic, even during the busiest days and hours. That said, stellar capture of the wildflower landscape and individual bloom, young lady.

Wonderful quest to get the perfect photos. And you did! Great story and a lovely presentation. That flower is most extraordinary. I always wonder how they stay so white sitting outside all day. Excellent views.

I had no clue that poppies could prickle, but then I have no clue about a lot of things! I love these shots, especially the close up shot of the poppy-business and the light is perfect! Poppies always look so incredibly fragile! I love their shapes and the colors here are absolutely wonderful. Prickly poppies...that's a new one to me, but I live for new stuff! Really wonderful!

Nice presentation, appreciate the close up! I have to confess to being a map junkie too...lol! For myself planning the trip is as much fun as going. Must have at least 3 fruit boxes full of maps ranging from forest , BLM, land ownership and mineral rights(good for rockhounding), topographical...well you get the idea. :~)
