Description
We've all seen the koi ponds in Japanese gardens. Serene, peaceful, very zen. Not here. For the princely sum of twenty-five cents you may purchase a container of fish food from a nearby dispenser. It does not help being the biggest fish in the pond when you are run over by a feeding frenzy.

I think they feed the koi at the Arboretum, too. All you have to do there is walk across the bridge and let your shadow fall on the water, and they swarm around, presumably waiting for food. Wonderful capture!

It remember me the piranhas. Splash...Argh!!

Looks like they found a way to make others pay for their food, and do the feeding to boot!

Nice family photo, I love that the parents seem to be very protective of the children, I was up in the mountains about a week ago and there was a bear in a tree below the trail I was on, and a lot of people of course had stopped to watch and take photos and it was down below a cliff and this little boy was standing very close to the edge and it was making me nervous and the mom didn't even seem to realize the danger I finally said something to her, she was more into watching the bear then her own kid.

It's nice to see that there are such gardens with fish. The Koi is by us as exceptionally and EXPENSIVE. This is probably the reason to see these animals are not public.

Beautiful shot! The family is certainly enjoying the attention from the fish and vice versa. The little guy looks somewhat apprehensive though. Very sweet family portrait.

That is a lot of fish and they always appear to be hungry or maybe they just like the attention of human interaction? A very idyllic family gathering and the little boy looks astounded but happy, excellent shot Mark, BB

Well that's fun! They don't let you you do that in San Fran. :( Great candid shot of this family having fun!

Your words like your imagery is a marvelous combination of intellect and human concern. Beautiful work

This is something I've scarcely seen, and I'm glad to see it here. I rather like this different view of Koi, being...well...being koi. Hmmm...was that a pun? Anyway, this is a brilliant, multi-species shot and I rather like the focus of the humans on that nicely active frenzy of fish. Brilliantly seen and I'm glad it's not your typical, everyday koi shot. In its way, that's very Zen as well, as it captures the essence of something scarcely seen or recognized. Five cents, eh? Money well spent! This is a wonderful shot.

Beautiful family scene. I like the interaction between the man, who is pointing out something and the boy who is watching. It's nice how they are closely grouped together and all sharing in the enjoyment of feeding the fish. I like the composition with four fish in the forefront escaping the crowd. Excellent shot!
