Description

These images are dedicated to Mario(mariogiannecchini) the Jedi Master of insect photography. For many years I have been frustrated at my failure to capture images of flying insects. Mario graciously taught me his secrets. As I approached this little fellow he flew away but this time, instead of chasing after him, I sat down and waited. Soon enough the dragonfly came back and landed next to me. He turned his head and looked at me as if to say, "Ok, now what?" He patiently waited while I snapped away, trying to get the images in focus. It was only when my stepmother attempted to get him to move onto her finger that he flew away. Thank you Mario.

Seriously??? You just sit around waiting and they come back??? Well, for pity's sake. I feel like one who is being taught to hunt snipe, but I'll keep that in mind. Not that I see many bugs to begin with, let alone twice. Whatever works. These shots are absolutely spectacular!

Really glad to check out was good, Mark! The thing is simple, if you try to think like the dragonfly, when he sees a giant who runs after her. By the time you wait for her good to know that you are not a danger! Macro is also necessary to make some observation of animal behavior, it helps a lot. Thanks to this dedication, really a great pleasure! Great photos, with the second above the other for the perfect balance of the frame with a nice inclusion, on the diagonal!

Sounds all very Zen, no wonder it works. And it works with perfect results too. You are a quick learner. The beautiful red dragonfly was putty in your hands. The middle shot looks like the dragonfly is showing off by flicking his left wings up. Perhaps a wave to you. Yes, Mario has taught you well Grasshopper. :).

Amazing! So that's the trick for these illusive critters? I thought it was a competitive thing: as I'm partial to various insect sorts that are in direct competition with dragonflies, I figured they knew that and simply refused to hang around. Now yellow jackets! I can't stop them from posing or behaving nicely as they brazenly steal my iced tea, iced coffee, or Dr. Pepper. Some people! Okay, now that I'm done with that, I'll say that these are extraordinary shots. I like them all for various reasons, but I particularly like the details in the second one and the "face on" glamour shot of the third. Brilliant work on all three counts. Sitting still, eh? I'll have to remember that.

Great tip, dedication, and images! Wonderful detail and shadows. I like the exaggerated shape of the heads in the shadows and the way the color and detail of the wings comes through. Fantastic detail of the wings.
