Description

A little birdie told me it was Bill’s Birthday; which is quite surprising for me, since most little birdies tell me of someone’s birthday long after the day in question. I suppose my normal belated birthday birdie is on vacation and his replacement is a bit more punctual. Well, that’s the excuse I’m using these days…and so, in honor of a not-entirely-belated birthday, I’m posting an image for Bill. And get this, it’s an image from… …Chicago! Well, okay, that last bit isn’t so surprising since I live in Chicago…but still. It’s not just any Chicago pic. It’s one with at least three Renderosity Photographers in it, if you know where to look. It’s a photo taken on Michigan Avenue, en-route to one of Chicago’s most extravagant ceilings. Bill and I paused to determine whether a particular store display was worthy of photographing, and Corey paused to photograph something across the street; I think he was going for that rather tall, somewhat brown building of dubious pedigree. We’re still trying to determine what it is: possibly a hotel, possibly a condo stack, possibly one of those multi-use-buildings Chicago love so much. Well…whatever it is, it’s brown and not entirely new, but it’s not entirely old enough to look good either. In fact, it looks like something built during the Communist Era in Russia: hulking, large, slightly uncoordinated, and completely lovable because it is so flagrantly challenged in the area of beauty. Unfortunately, that building isn’t the focus of this image. In looking through photos and marveling at how many shots I took in a single day, I found this, and was immediately transported back to the moment in question. I found myself embedded in the reflections (well, I found my legs, anyway) and I found Bill and Corey. I’m surprised Tara wasn’t in the shot, but if I remember correctly, she was aiming her camera northward, just to the right of this current frame. She was doing that photographer thing: you know, homing in on that one right shot. As it is Bill’s birthday, I decided to post this particular image. I’d hoped to find something automotive or aeronautical in my files, but I didn’t have anything sufficiently gift-worthy. I do have a bus zooming around the curve of Wacker Drive, but there’s something inherently non-dramatic about a CTA Bus lumbering into a shot, farting diesel fumes, and so I decided to stick with reflections, colors, and lots of little shiny things, apparently on sale. And so, in honor of Bill’s birthday, sans diesel-farting busses, here is a capture from a good day in Chicago, moments before that extravagant ceiling caused all of us to spend quite some time going “ooh” and “aah” and wondering just how many people were responsible for putting all of that ceiling stuff up there! Happy Birthday Bill, and thank you to everyone for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re all having a great week.

Thanks Chip for the birthday greetings! I do remember this window which is really saying something! Imagine how many windows we must have looked in that Friday. I got a laugh out of this window...there is not one thing in there that I can't live without. I see three of us in the reflection...Corey and I seem to have our heads but you've lost yours;-) Great window...great shot...so blingy...love it. Well done!!!

Lovely bling! I've got a shot almost exactly like this, although I was, indeed, standing a bit to the right when I took it. I got all distracted, looking in my files in order to verify that information. I saw pictures we took after that, including a building with a weird cheese-shaker on top. Turns out it's the 1929 Medinah Shriner's Athletic Club building. Who knew? You got me on a roll, and I re-lived that entire Friday afternoon, including your "Friends Romans Countrymen" speech from the Wabash Avenue Bridge, and the darkening sky which resulted in an honest-to-goodness-cow-peeing-on-a-flat-rock rain ... thing. Cloudburst. Squall. Whatever. Fifteen minutes of total downpour, which then just ... quit. Just like that. Followed by several hours of warmth, cookies, and conversation. Ahhhhh ... it was a GOOD day. This is a wonderful dedi for Bill's birthday. You gave the gift of rememberance, and it was yummy.

An interesting image, and because of the number of masks in there I'm going to refrain from directing the viewer towards any particular person, ha ha!

It took me a little bit to focus on the reflections (I do love shiny things), but I finally caught sight of your legs, then what must be Bill and Corey (taking your word on that). What an excellent birthday gift and happy belated birthday Bill!

Lots of cool stuff in that window including three silhouettes. The silhouette on the seft is standing sideways. Three of us in a single shot. Us meaning RR since I wasn't there.

Wow! There is so much to look at here. The image could be divided into 6 rectangles, and each one would have enough interesting things in it to write about. Fascinating image and great birthday dedication. I like all the masks, sparkly things, and draping stuff. I wonder what the four spiky things are that remind me of metallic cone flowers. I like the two ladies seeming to walk past a manikin, and the square bra on another manikin. The no smoking sign is interesting. For it to make sense, the name of the store would be Temptation something. But can they really regulate the smoking within 15 feet of their store? Very cool image!
