Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Nice shot Corey! I like that thin strip of light separating the lamp standard from the building.

This is one of those jaw-dropping images that really makes me see just how tall Chicago is. It's all about the POV here and holy-frak! What a POV! Looking up and at a slight angle does wonders. This is an amazing shot, I mean...really! And I love that it's kinda near that blue hour where things are starting to light up but it's not entirely dark yet. This also has that feeling I try to capture in my writing, believe it or not, where everything is as it should be, but you might not necessarily be seeing it from the perspective you're accustomed to. It's one of those sorts of photos that totally screws with the concept of comfort zones, at least visually, and it takes the viewer OUT of an accustomed comfort zone and says: Hey, guess what! You can see the world this way too, and if you're neurotic and suffering from self esteem issues, then this will probably make you feel like a little bitty worm on a grat big hook...but if you're human, you'll get over it. You are human, aren't you? Some people don't like that, but it makes for such a compelling photograph and a way to re-contextualize day-to-day life. And as a birthday dedication, this totally rocks. Okay, it's not automotive or a bit of output from the aerospace industry, but WOW. It rocks. This is great on so many different levels...and yeah, I remember that day too! I like this a LOT. It's a doozie and a perfect Happy Birthday!

Oh, absolutely...I liked this shot when you showed it to me the day you took it and now I like it even more thanks in large part to the way you've postworked it. I can't explain why the tilt enhances the image for me...but I suppose it has to do with the completely unique view you've created...and better yet, that you've posted this with me in mind. Thanks a million my friend:)

Wowser! I love this! Great composition, love the repetition, and that light pole is great. The stoplight adds a nice little kick, as well. Outstanding work!

Very unusual camera angle!

Very graphic Corey. The color in the street light and stop sign intensify the angle juxtaposed with the ONE WAY sign. Nice work. Also Happy Birthday Bill. Corey's Mom.
