It levitates? Excellent. The 'mundane' world really isn't so mundane, is it Mike? It is full of wonders. Even we are a bit of a wonder and I often wonder about us :-9

My father had an interest in electronics. As a result I got to play with magnets when I was a child. If you tried to put the negative pole of a magnet together with the positive pole of another magnet they would repel each other. Since the earth has a magnetic field levitation should, in theory, be possible. See? Science can be fun.

Yes, magnets can be fun! Have to correct Mark though, the neg and pos poles will attract, two pos poles or two neg poles will repel, LOL.

It seems a little fuzzy to me, not the levitation bit but the thing itself.. Is it behind glass.. or is this one of your not so good shots Mike!! LOL

I used to have one of those on my desk for about 5 years. When I moved it got lost. It really does just hover in mid air due to magnetic forces repelling each other. If you spin it, it litterally spins for a very very long time because there is no friction slowing it down. There has been a lot of research into utilizing these same properties for creating fuel efficent transportation. When the entire train is raised slightly off the track by magnetic repulsion it would take a tiny fraction of the fuel need to move that train compared to when its entire weight is resting on the rails. I've not yet heard if they have developed it into a workable scenario yet but it does have possibilites. Great shot Mike.

I love toys, and that one is something I would definitely want to have...however, if I had one, I would probably spend the whole day watching it and never get anything done LOL
