Description
I took a closer look at the original image and realized that the levitron was not out of focus per se, but rather I caught it in the wobble
if you look at the rest of the objects around it, you will see they are in focus - sharp detail.
However that is moot as I have three shots of the device, with the camera on a tripod and various auto and manual shutter settings and lights and yada yada yada.

OK Mike Sorry, just looked like it was in DOF mode the bg was sharp but the spinner was fuzzy, you didn't say it was spinning when you took the shot. I like the top shot of the three here where I can get a real good look at it and the bottom looks a bit like yesterdays shot where it is blurry and the BG is sharp as yes it is spinning folk lol..

Does it really levitate or is it fixed to a spindle on the side there? Seems to me that if it were 'at rest' it would be lying in the trough. Sorry for the questions, but I'm a bit confused...or maybe not. Cool pic :)

I have yet to buy one of these, but I've seen them around. I rather like the way it vaguely resembles the "unimpressive" aspects of a probable alien engine of some sort. It would seem that when technology becomes sufficiently advanced and able to do things far more efficiently, that many of the "familiar" aspects of "machinery" fall by the wayside and we get things that sit still (or spin) while doing lots of work, but with fewer moving parts. I love that, and I'm intrigued not only by this bit of scientific photography, but by the possibilities that frictionless spin might open up, especially in terms of just every day stuff where maglev technology might come in handy: provided we don't nuke ourselves or suffer cultural meltdown first. I love these shots, especially the top frame showing the object at rest.
