Argh! Viewed from this perspective one can wonder if anything is worth this loss of life and suffering accompanying it. Some of these fellows ardently believed in the ideas/cause they were sent to their deaths for, others were ordered out to fight and didn't want to go. All died a far ways from home, never able to say that last good bye. Their families and friends learning of their loss long afterwards, if at all. All because of the insanity of their leaders at the top. Beautifully made photos and collage, honouring the dead on all sides of the conflict. Lest we forget, yet, living this far afterwards, and not having experienced the hardships and horrors it's not easy to grasp what these poor fellows went through.

T.Rex has said it well.. Respect.. Far to many of these men died for causes they never believed in.. Far to many never had the chance for a last farewell.. And FAR to many died in a war that easily could have been over a good 6 months before it ended.. But for the madness of one man.. Look at the pictures above Cameron....Now send troops to Afghanistan to a war we have no place in.... Sorry to bring politics into your picture mate.. But.. Rob

IMHO... Awww, c'mon guys. War is hell. War is folly. We live in a broken world. Give powers who vow to destroy our way of life freedom to act unchecked? Unilaterally disarm in the face of tyranny? Make no mistake...tyranny is out there waiting... Turning the other cheek is biblical but not if the result is to be shot in the back. We should/can never forget, but it does dishonor to the fallen to cry bitter tears and rail against history. I believe the theme behind Remembrance Day should be a quiet thank you and a renewed resolve to continue to keep the peace... To honor the sacrifices of the past. And to remember that sometimes keeping the peace involves fighting and yes, unfortunately dying for our freedom. IMHO...

I respect all the viewpoints thus far shared, however, I think that Neil's simple first thoughts on it, plus the photographs, still says it best. I once lived very close to one of our National Cemeteries that held graves going back before the Civil War. Always a solemn, beautiful place on the bluffs overlooking the Missouri River. I went there often.

May those who gave so much rest in peace and continue to show us the folly of war. Well done Neil At 11.00 am yesteday I watched so many stand and remember whilst others just walked on by without a clue or perhaps care about what was going on. How soon some forget to remember the sacrifice made by others so that they may live in peace and continuing security.

Wonderful photos in this montage but so sad to see all those gravestones. All those lives and still no peace in the world.

The hardest experience I ever had was when I visited the Viet Nam Memorial. It was the most oppressive, depressing thing I ever saw.
