Description

Please take a moment to view full size, thank you. This is the striking and unique Lillith, gifted to me by my mentor and dear friend Peggy (Pearl3D). Thank you Peggy, she was just the type of character I needed for this imagery. For despite her name, our Lillith is not being expelled from any Garden of Eden but rather is surviving in a futuristic urban grunge hellhole. Here I step out of my fantasy comfort zone to do an urban style sci-fi piece. I normally don't do urban settings, except in photography where the grungier the better. But I could not resist Tin Pan Alley when it went on sale last week at DAZ as I have been itching to try something other than broken down castles and mythical buildings. Several people have commented they like my discussion of the techniques and technical details so I will indulge them here. Others can stop reading now ;-) Gamma Correction in render screen again reduced to 1.1. Subsurface Scattering node, in material room, applied to all skin textures; the Quality was bumped up from 0.5 to 1.0 to give max texture and the specularity was moved from 0.5 to 1.0 to give the best subsurface lighting of human skin. The blurring was done in photoshop. The original scene layer was rendered very sharp. I then duplicated this layer two times. I used a moderate Gausian blur on one layer and a lighter setting on the other and then turned off the original layer (to preserve it as a backup - which I needed because it took a few goes to get the right combinations). I had the portrait as the top layer and used it for comparison of the levels of blurring on the scene. I then put the heavier blur layer over the lighter blur layer and carefully erased Lillith and the nearest monster rat (on lower right). This gave me one crisp portrait layer and two stages of scene blurring (a slightly blurred Lillith figure and a distinctly blurred landscape). This is a technique that I have modified from a tutorial by JenniSjoberg. I finished off with the DE Soft filter in Adam Wrights Dynamic Actions to increase the high key on Lillith, give more color depth and soften the overall image. Lillith is here paler than Peggy had created her but I think the wan look fits well for the scene. Also, her ears are by .Seven. and Sabby, not part of Peggy's package. Wow! This is just superb. Really amazing and detailed image. Reading on your Photoshop methods is very insightful and very imformative. It gives me a better grasp on using multiple layers of the same yet altered image. Great depth and really awesome and dynamic illustration. Full size is a must.

It's good to see you step out of your comfort (?) zone - and - no surprise - your sci-fi / urban work rocks just as much as your fantasy work! This is a delight to the eyes, and the technical details (I'm taking notes) are always great! I'm going to do some experimenting tonight, inspired by your suggestion in your last sitemail. Now, here's a little something to add to your toybox - and best of all is the price tag... free. Mosey on over to http://www.optikvervelabs.com/ and download a copy of Virtual Photographer. It's a plugin for Photoshop, and once you've played with it a bit, you'll fall in love with it. I used it on my "Shooz" post. It has tons of options, and you can control the exposure to a tee. I'm sitemailng you... Awesome work, Roxy - as always!

I think this is very clever, a trademark of yours having the full scene and then the portrait in part of it and one that takes great skill. Wonderful use of layers and effects in this, extremely well done. Intriguing character too and you present her so well!

Very nice, Roxy! You feel like she's moving toward us, which I suppose is what you intended. Yes, bluring layers can be a very cool technique to use. Great lighting and textures in this and she looks very capable of taking care of herself in those mean-streets. Love all the wisps of smoke from the gun! Thanks again for the tips!

Dang girl you sure know your Poser. I worked all day yesterday on one image in 2012..Still not happy but then this is a learning and experimental. I must say Poser has more dials then I know what to do with. Not as user friendly as Daz..You really gotta work at it.. Fabulous Poser scene and great post work... You would make a great tutor!!
