Description

Pretty much redid previous image only this time I wanted to use Poser 2012. Well let me tell you. Poser has more dials and options then a bee hive has bees. But I persevered. (did I spell that right) I do like the lighting controls. Still think Daz is more user friendly but always like the poser results.. Don't be kind Poser pros. Sock it to me and let me know of anything I should have tried to make it better. Still pretty pre-school but least I'm trying..

Looks to me like you've got something going on good right out of the box. I like the lighting and the character is just freaky weird. Very cool. I like all the oddball props for the scene too. It kind of makes me think what might happen if the Joker were turned in to a vampire. Nice work.

Awesome work! I am a total noob in Poser, and haven't even loaded up 2012 yet, so I'll just say great work on lights and character and leave it at that! lol

It is your birthday so one cannot be too hard on you! Have a great day. I sent you a little something to help make your day a bit happier. One thing to note right away is that in the poser render you appear to be getting somewhat richer hair. That is what I see anyways. Otherwise it is very hard to give critical comment that you ask for because this character's skin is so unnatural and perhaps you used the strong ray trace shadows to deliberately play up the spooky effect. But here is something to try - you need to get a handle on your ray trace shadows. This is something that either is not, and for sure was not, a part of DAZ. It is why DAZ renders are so good for portraits, because the program naturally gives soft lighting and ray trace is not an option. Not so with poser. It is why poser is better for scenes and landscapes - where you have natural strong lighting. Ok, so now in poser go to your lights floating menu, click on each light and wait a few seconds while it turns on the the menu bar. Go through all your lights and find the one or maybe two that are ray traced. Find the strongest one. That is your main light source that will cast the deepest shadows. (My advice.. only have one ray trace light.. if you have more than one turn them into depth map shadow lights). Go back to your main light. 1) Go to parameters menu. Find the shadow dial, it should be at the top. Set the number from 0.6-0.8. Many vendors set the default at 1 but that produces unnatural pure black shadow. Lower numbers are less dark. 2) Go to properties menu. Set the shadow blur radius from 5-10. The default is 1 but this gives unnatural sharp edges to ray trace shadows. 3) In same menu find shadow samples. Set it to 40-50. This dial chews up computer resources so the more powerful your computer is push the number up to 50. The default is way low, like 20. This forces the computer to more accurately map your shadows. It will give you smootheer transitions as the light falls off. Most people forget to spin this dial, but it will make big difference to shadow quality. 4) In the render window set the GC=1.1. The default is 2.2. Do this right away, even before you fiddle with the lights and long before you are ready to render. The lower number will give more saturation to your renders. Your view screen will look better and skin tones will be richer. It is crazy but in poserpro2012 because it uses openGL hardware the render window effects what the setup window looks like. So I should have had this as point 1 but it is easier to explain in the order I gave you. Ok, having done all that you are now ready to do a basic poserpro2012 render. There is more tweaking yet to do for perfection but this will get you started and significantly improve your lighting. P.S. This is not the lesson that I promised you in your gift, but it turned out to be more than I expected. Have fun!

Wow! What a Difference! I also think that Poser makes beautiful pictures. But my attempts to Poser each time ended in a disaster! There was, however, Poser 6 and I do not know how anything has changed that. The picture is brilliant! Happy Birthday to you!

WHAT CAN I SAY, I LOVE DAZ BUT I DON'T HAVE THE PATIENCE TO WAIT FOR THE RENDERS.... THE LIGHTS ARE SO MUCH EASIER TO WORK WITH IN POSER. NOW IF YOU GIVE ME A GENESIS FOR POSER, I'LL DEFINITELY GO POSER, I'M USING BOTH PROGRAMS IN 64BIT, THEY LOOK BETTER BUT I SEE THEM WORKING THE SAME...

I agree with you about Daz being more user freindly, at least in the interface, but Poser does a lot more things, hence all the bees, I mean dials and options. I doubt I could add anything more useful than Brewgirl already said, since I'm also a poser noob. Looks like that guys sister did a lipstick job on him while he was asleepin'!! That'd explain his mood lol.

Well, Dang it! Another birthday I missed..... Well, Happy Birthday anyway! Welcome to the wonderful world of Poser Pro 2012! The more you play with it, the more you will love it. It's been said the you can 'learn' Poser in a couple months or less - but to 'master' it takes years. How true. I've been playing with Poser since I bought P8 back in 2009. I've learned a ton of stuff, but I still consider myself a noob compared to many others here. But what a fun ride learning.... I couldn't possibly give you better advice than what Roxy has written here - frankly, I've learned a bit more from her comment. She is a font of excellent info. And for a first render, you have done a wonderful job with this! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with PP2012 and Roxy's guidance!
