Description

Way back on June 23rd 2008 'Tryphon' posted an image called 'Jungle Patrol'. It blew me away along with several others. The burning question was "where did you get that cool Japanese gear"?. Our good friend 'Touchwood' supplied the answer and I'm sure many rushed off for 'Freebies'. I did a re-paint on the tank and a couple of images and somewhere along the line lost all the gear. A return to the site was greeted by domain for sale.....website GONE! However, I found all my original downloads the other day while sorting my Poser problems and for no particular reason entered the web address in Google.......behold, it's back...at least Siosai is. The old stuff is there and some new stuff including the rather spiffy warship above.Sadly only the vehicles remain, all the neat infantry equipment and military building are gone except for a very nice machinegun. If you visit the site it's in Japanese but click the first button below Home and your in the download section, for some reason the category headings are the only thing in English, but that's usefull....a lot of things are available as .obj or Poser files and it's worth a few minutes browsing, afterall it's all FREE! If you would like to avail yourself of said free bounty Click Here I've turned off rateing for this post as it's just an advert for somebody else, but feel free to comment if you find this sort of thing useful and if YOU know of any obscure sites like this, please share........... My next post should be the start of one of my 2 or 3 parters (dedication to follow).

When I saw "missing link" I thought you were talking about me (silly, ego-minded T.Rex). But, this is great. I remember these models from a good while ago. Sad to hear the story behind the original web site - he must have lost a lot of models (unless they were backed up on his hard drive). And restoring a large site is a lot of work! Thanks for sharing, Neil. You know where I'm headed now! Keep up the good work! :-)

Thanks Neil (and Touchwood). Great find. There are probably more great Japanese free models out there if you know how to suss it out. Great additions to the prop room. If I run across any, I'll be sure to post. Make sure you check out the Sketchup Google Warehouse. Many serviceable models there, some surprisingly well done. They are glitchy getting them into Vue. Some work and some require a lot of work. But again, they are free!

Good looking models Neil...have never paid detailed attention to Japanese WWII armor but the tank appears to be a Type 95 Ha-Go made by Mitsubishi for what that's worth:)

Hey! I recognise that destroyer "Type A" Kagero CLass. I have one of those on the slipways now. I am off to get that even as soon as I sign off. It will be interesting to see how it compares to mine especially after all the work I've done! LOL
