Continuing my offbeat perspective, grayscale, exploration of London, England series.
This one is for Chipka (Chip from Chicago) who shares my love of gritty urban landscapes for photo opportunities. Take a look at his "In Transit" and you will see where I am coming from.
Glow was shot hand held at night somewhere in London's east end. I was riding with a small group and bringing up the rear, of course, because I was the only one stopping to take shots. I was quite far behind (again of course), when we crossed this street and I looked down along it and Whoa! Those lights in the slight gritty mist of a London September night, and the long shot down that street - I just had to stop, drop the bike, point, shoot, and get going again. I had no time to compose the shot; it was just a pure instinct grab and go.
Of course being a fast grab, hand held, night shot it was far from crystal clear but really it was the atmosphere I wanted to capture as much as the scene. So here I photoshopped in a bit of streaky noise to give a kind of a dreary, grunginess, which might well fit the seasonal London atmosphere of the scene anyways (and hopefully masked a bit of the imperfections of the shot.)

Both images, yours and his are excellent. I like that yours is a bit shaky and blurry. It has a very surreal look - a moment frozen in time - just as Chip's is but in a different way. These little alleys like this are so intriguing. Sigh, we just don't have them here do we? I loved the ones in Lyon (Fr). So many interesting things there!! I think you'll like that hair, Roxy. A plus that it's for M and F both!!

I love shots like this - and the Chipka influence is definitely evident here, even with the slight blur - which actually enhances the 'feel' of the location, and circumstances of the photo. Nice one, Roxy! :-D

The out of focus lends itself to the grit. Good idea to add the streaks. Very cool and moody shot. Would love to visit there again some day.

Beautiful photo!! Love the atmosphere you were able to capture! I envy you that ability I've taken one good photo in all of my life. My sister had the photography talent (it was impossible for her to take a bad photo.)

Interesting idea but it lacks too much focus for me. I think taking that extra few seconds to use a tripod would have nailed it.

Stylish image for sure. And again, as with the previous photo, you captured strange things - figures of two walking persons coincide with the side posts, which creates a strange look and adds to your target atmosphere.
