Description
The P.1110 'Ente'..was of the most revolutionary aircraft designs of all 'Wunderwaffe' the Messerschmitt P.1110 fighter/interceptor project. The 'Ente' (Duck) was rejected over stability concerns with the canard layout and highly swept wings. This design would not be truly possible until the advent of computers and fly by wire control. The German designers non the less saw the advantages of this layout. If produced the 'Ente' would have offered enviable performance and probably the highest top speed of any fighter around.
Other P.1110 proposals included a v-tail version with an annular intake over the fuselage, a conventional layout and a tail-less derivative the P.1111, which served as the basis for the P.1112. The P.1112 had reached the prototype construction stage at the end of the war.

A truly revolutionary design, but where did they get that name ? However had it got into production, I imagine the name would be the least of peoples concerns....

I'm wondering where the pilot sits! Excellent series, such a depth of knowledge!

Don't know what's the best...Your work or the informations! Bravo

Stability problems which were still around for designs like this into Vietnam. Excellent series.

Those design guys were very, very busy weren't they:) I am sure there is a lot of German designing/engineering in both the F-86 and MiG 15...swept wings, etc., etc. Fascinating render. Makes me think what could have been...thank goodness it wasn't:)

Ente, or quack, considering the far out/way ahead design. Very similar to top notch modern designs today. I'd love a front-side-top view of this. I wonder how the front respectively back wings were sloped. I also wonder what the P.1112 looked like, since you mention it reaching the prototype stage. Man, this series is getting more and more fascinating. And, the work involved to make the 3D models must be a LOT. Thanks again for both a cool image and very informative text. How can you out-do yourself next? :-)

The Duck name probably came from the Canard (Duck)wings at the fromt. Mig also had an Ente...thought it did look like a duck. Love the project aircraft, keep up the good work.

awesome series!! BRAVO!!

Wonderful series showing how history could have taken a completely different turn.

If they had been able to perfect many of their designs before the wars end, the ending results could have gone the other way.

Another one I've never heard of. Very interesting. You have to hand it to the pilots who climbed into these things to test them...some balls!!!!

no doubt some of the world's foremost scientists are German born.I am nearly 1/2 German but I guess I got the short end of the deck.excellent models and render

Seems to me the ideas were there but the technology wasn't quite up to it just yet. Wonderful model neil!

Yes! I imagine the name would be the last thing on a Bomber Streams mind if a dozen of these ripped threw there ranks, the fighters meant to be defending them powerless! It makes you wonder really, were our scientists and designers so far behind, that the Germans just about made aviation history for the next 30 years! everything was either ripped off or based on a design by them! Staggering mate.. As is your work, excellent.. More.. Rob

Well the ideas were there, but the realization wasn't. A neat series you're doing here. Kudos!

Its all so amazing... Ah, ingenuity for sure- a dream job. But like others have probably said before, building "peace" is also very complicated... I don't recall that any of Hitler's scientists got that one to fly...??? Not everyone had a total "quack" running the entire country- running it into the ground- while waving a big cheque-book and saying "Build wonder weapons." So, obviously they built wonder weapons. Btw, I assume prisoners were used to help construct at least some of the "somewhat" mass-produced wonderweapons ...the real ones that is. (Gee would you fly in anything assembled by starving labour camp inmates?)

Saw a special the other night, IIRC on the History Channel< about German designs based on captured UFO technology. This could be a fine example.

I often wonder if Germany had been able to hold off the Allies for even just a couple of more years, if their technological innovations wouldn't have led to their domination of the entire world--not to mention bringing the war zone to American shores!
