Description
As it turned out, a bunch of interesting subjects rolled into one render. Of course the Fairey Swordfish.."Stringbag". Which looks more like a dragonfly to me. Descriptions say that the 3 man crews loved them...no wonder, looks like a party in there. Ultimately their flaws in combat outweighed their popularity with the crews. Then there is the HMS Hood in better days. Destroyed in a tragic and immense tragedy (few survivors and virtually no wreckage left) on May 24,1941 by the Bismark. Behind a bit and on the port side is the HMS Belfast which outlived the conflict.
I tried out some newly discovered lighting tweaks in Vue...I like 'em. Thanks to all the dedicated Vue artists and tekkies who mercilessly tweak the settings to perfection and share the knowledge.
HMS Hood: Wonderful model by Chris Schell schells.ca
HMS Belfast: sketchup warehouse free model
Stringbag: free from archive3d.com (I think) with adds from neiwil's free Hurricane and many texture and bump tweaks.

mighty fine work, bud! all glory to the RN, the Stringbag, and to Adm. Samuel Hood!

Another superb peice of art Bill, very well done as usual. HMS Hood was sunk, I believe, with one shell from Bismark, a lucky (unlucky) hit on a magazine. Of course HMS Belfast is now a tourist spot and is anchored in the Thames next to Tower Bridge in London. Looking forwards to the next one. 5*

Man alive! that is superb....the lighting certainly works, everything so detailed.Love the 'stringbags' they would play their part in avenging the Hood.Still amazes me that three men got out, given the blast, as you say not much left.Ted Briggs the last of the 3 survivors lived till 2008, what a memory to live with........This makes a fine tribute to the sailors and airmen and is a definite fave with me....

Beautiful job and tribute. The water is superb. Great textures (but I can't judge the Belfast's - she's too far away). Lovely "Stringbags". Keep up the good work! :-)

Yet again you have created a realistic flyover that really has a sense of being in the air. Really enjoy looking at your work! So keep it up ! 5+

Excellent! And the Belfast sits as a Museum in The Pool Of lOndon by Tower Bridge.. More like this mate! Rob

I like the work of steelrazer. Excellent Work. It was a fair battle and the blow up of Hood showed the dark side of the battle cruiser concept (they were fast but only lightly protectet compared to battle ships). I visited H.M.S. Belfast many years ago in London. She is IMHO the only big WW2 Ship one can visit in europe. We scraped all this old stuff...

Correction: Fairey Swordfish, the "Stringbag", actually came from archibase.net ,sorry for the misinfo, but who can remember it all?

Ah...Great stuff. something with floats at last...!!! Excellent wake too... Vue is amazing isn't it! What, there is also a battlecruiser? Oh, yes... I see it now, behind the seaplanes. ;-) Something after all, has got to be responsible for looking after those lovely little Faireys...
