Description
This was inspired when I read that forming up some of the hundreds of bombers comprising a mission could take several hours. It just never occured to me! I'm working on a couple of naval rough seas renders and this was a nice way to take a break and dry out. I like the way the atmosphere and lighting turned out in this one.

Don't know if the RAF used them, but I always loved the U.S.A.A.F formation planes, some really wild paint jobs on them. This is great, I agree the light works well, a nice feel of gathering gloom to accompany the gathering bombers....top work mate....

Beautiful composition and render!

Good point, one never really considers the time spent forming up, certainly a lot of hard work...nice pic.

A great crowded image showing the difficulties of forming a tight group.

Looks great! Got to say.. Trouble is, as far as I know, and I have read allot, the RAF Bomber Command, used streams as opposed to formations.. The idea being hundreds of bombers spread out in lines hundreds of miles long, would of course spread out the Night Fighters.. It often worked.. Where as, formations, which normally were used during daylight, basically said 'attack me'.. The day fighters formed and piled in, in their large formations.. As you know with B-17 and B-24 formations.. Casualties were often high.. Sometimes not if fighters were there.. BUT, this works as a picture and I LOVE the skin on the lead Lanc! Cool.. Rob PS, you do great work, keep going!!!!

Nice relaxing bit of formation building... maybe soothing isn't the word for a dozen Lancasters- very effective picture though
