Description

The North Atlantic was the busiest route for shipping for the duration of WW2... and the worst area for attacks by U-boats of the German Navy... HMS Hood (seen in the background) carried out convoy escort duties here in 1939 and also in 1940 prior to being assigned to "Force H" and returned to that duty after her tour in the Mediteranian... The mainstay of convoy protection was the Flower Class Corvette... seen here running up along the flank of the convoy... Based on a whaling ship hull design, they had horrible seakeeping tendancies and were very rough on their crews... but were incredibly durable and hearty little vessels... I've used my USS Vestal as a Merchantman stand-in as i didn't have a decent Liberty Ship or Tramp Steamer to use... All ships made by me Rendered in Daz Studio 2.3 2 distant lights

Ty everyone... and Ty steelrazer i'm glad you like her... the Hood took a fair bit of work to build... she was actually harder to model that the Arizona even thought the Arizona has about twice as many guns...

Thats the trouble, eh?... ;-) once you start modelling, you always need to make more models.... The scene looks appropriately inhospitable- I'm glad I don't have to show up in a U-boat! I imagine their sea-keeping qualities are even worse than that of corvettes... All the models are great, though here in the sunny Pacific, Arizona is my favourite... as you'll shortly see.

Lol... yeppers... i know at some point soon i'll have to do some kind of cargo steamer... but the Vestal makes a reasonable stand-in for this scene... :) in the kind of seas i've tried to depict all you'd see of the U-boat is the spray over the conning tower... and maybe the bow or stern as they broach the surface riding over a wave... if they were even on the surface at this point... lol... must have been hard as heck to make out ships in rough weather through a periscope!
