Strange visitors you get there, Kim. What a stunning "pig", never seen this before. A great night capture you could make from it.

It look's like a big rat with fingers

Just to let you know they are not related to rats and this one is about the size of a house cat. They are by nature timid animals and will only fight when backed into a corner. But when they do! Watch out! Those little fingers hide retractable clawers and they have long needle like teeth.

OH! We dont have such one here. It is a strange looking creature, Kim :-D

Great capture! Having just returned from New Zealand after spending 9 months there, I can tell you that they have an estimated 70 million of them which they are trying their hardest to eradicate. As an introduced species they have no natural predators to keep them in check. These pests are causing irreparable damage killing both native birds and trees in very large numbers. In Australia I'm told they are protected... New Zealand they have a bounty on their heads. Countries just across the ditch from each other have such different experiences..

Cute little critter!

An excellent night capture but gosh they do a lot of damage in our country as they are out of control. They eat our native trees. They are quite edible in a possum stew but very few of us eat them as you wouldn't know if it had been poisoned or not.

We have them here in Texas along with Raccoons. and Armadillos. Those are the three I see the most of here.

Great shot Kim. When we were kids, we were told to NEVER hurt a possum because they only lived in New England. Behold - they are everywhere. :>)

outstanding night capture.they would not fare well entering my yard with my dogs.they both have their eyes on a pesky squirrel that has been getting in one tree.if I see it again I will set a trap

dutch saying: 'the later on the evening, the more beautiful the people' (guess that had something to do with booze? but used 'in general' nowadays) pretty visitor!!! great capture!

Really enjoying the range of comments on this one~ ;) Nice live capture of this pesky night visitor. They may not be related to rats but they are very rat-like in that they eat anything (thus I would never eat one, dirty meat), they reproduce like mad, nasty-up where they live (bodily functions, chewing up stuff), and harbor disease. Yes, I have shot dozens and have at least one living in my shop that comes out at night and eats my cats' food and fights with them, that I will shoot on sight when the opportunity arises. Aside from the above I have nothing against them as long as they keep to their wild wooded territory and not mine. >.<
