Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

beautiful cityscape

Really nice how you were able to capture the lights in such a way as to give it a subtly surreal atmosphere, making the whole scenery feel less harsh or urbanized.

Very, very beautiful capture my friend, incredible place and lighting, spectacular photo!

I'm so glad you posted this, as I saw it on your camera playback screen and it looked exactly like this, only much, much smaller! This is a brilliant piece of photographic work, especially since it makes Chicago look so good; the lights are fantastic, and that stairway/pedway looks positively clean and welcoming as opposed to what it actually was...funny how a camera can do so much! I love the angles and the colors and that nice, gem like shimmering gleam. Great work.

Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. I'm hooked by the zig-zag look of the staircase to the platform. A very pragmatic design for what the politicians of the day took to be a rather utilitarian place. There is an odd sense of abandonment to it though. Perhaps its all the lights racing along the expressway while the station lies quiet and (seemingly) empty of people. I'm sure that is about to change at any moment. Great expansive shot too.

gorgeous picture, the light makes such wonderful colors and patterns. I'm glad you had a good Thanksgiving feast, too. What I'm also enjoying about this shot is that I've actually been in almost this exact same spot, many years ago. brings back some very nice memories.

Oak Park was on our list ... one of the many, many places we never got to! Obviously, we'll have to come back. :) We probably drove by there on our way into town. It's fascinating to see the Blue Line train going by as you're driving down the freeway. (I know ... I am SO easily amused!) The light oozing out from under the roof of the walkway is great. Wonderful picture! Glad you had a good turkey day! :)

Aren't trains great! Your life would be a lot different without them. And for sure you'd probably have lost out on one mighty fine Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Love the nighttime colors!

The play between light/dark/shadows in this image is just fantastic! And that's just the first contrast I noticed. Then there's the stillness of the station, and the blur of road activity. This is my favourite type of capture - something that is much more than the sum of its parts. Excellent work!

Now that's a cool shot!

Like nothing I have ever seen before..(mind you I haven't sen that nmuch, too parochial!) So interesting that the station is a long thin lit line next to a busy motorway.

I really like the green light of the train station against the warm light of the highway. Very nice capture.
