Description
We passed through several towns and villages on our trip east. At times we would stop to stretch our legs. The people were curious and friendly. I saw a young boy sitting inside a coiled hose and brought my camera up to my eye. As I focused, grandma came out of her shop and saw the boy. She bent down to pick him up. Was he in trouble? Of course not, she just wanted him to stand beside his brother so the nice man could take a proper photograph. Throughout our twelve days in the country I never saw an adult yell at or punish a child. Our local guide Needup assured me that this was not the Bhutanese way. Children were taught by example and with reason rather than punishment.

These photos are so cool but what is even better is the way the parents bring up the children... if only others could learn and practice this

I am SO glad he put his finger up his nose for you! The kid inside the hose would have been a great shot, but this story, complete with finger, is a delight!

Great shots! We must learn of he Buthanese method of education.Buthanesen parents dont yell childrens because is not necesary, they educated with example. Occidentals parents dont yell childrens because the childs could call the police.

Sadly I wonder if that would happen today, some people get freaked out if you want to take their photos, I think they should see it as a compliment. Nice image.

That is just so CUTE!!! I wonder if older brother said "the man wants you to put your finger up your nose for the shot". :) Wonderful way to bring up children. I don't recall any wars begun by Bhutanese, so I guess it works. Wonderful shots. How lucky you are to have them.

Two lovely captures and perfect timing, Mark ;) If only Westerners could bring their children up like that - it will probably never happen - ah well, we can always admire these ones from afar and what a delight they are. BB

Nicely, like the great the little brother hug smile One must not be rich to child-rearing. It needs love and security.

I love the sweet expression in the top image, and of course the finger up the nose is a great companion to it. Excellent captures! I was impressed by the treatment of children when I was in Japan too and by their behavior. Though from what I've heard, they face a lot of pressure when they start going to school.
