My favourite time of year by the Mersey, Winter tides can be very spectacular. This morning's tide was 9.2 metres with a gale blowing in off the Irish Sea. Mother nature's humour is such that the most spectacular scenes are virtually impossible to photograph.I could barely stand up, let alone hold my camera still. This photo was taken with the wind pressing me against the railings you see coming down on the right.Turning into the wind was nothing but sand and sea spray.I did manage to get a little shelter besides the Fort Perch Rock, which allowed a couple of shots of the lighthouse getting a pounding, may post one of them tomorrow if suitable.I've mentioned before, I'm not overly religious but the title seemed to fit....hope you like this.
Now, I need another shower, even my ears are full of sand :-)

Aviation and tempting hotel girls now awesome winter scenery by the coast. Is there no end to your talent :) Forget inner cities, everyone should be beside the seaside!

Outstanding image Neil. I'll bet the wind turbines were wizzing round flat out.

A classic seascape...dramatic, angry sky, eerie light, roiling sea. Your composition is superb. This should decorate you wall! An instant fave.

Sure you are not a photographer?? This is brilliant! Stunning mate, well done indeed! Instant Fave of course... Re[ply to preeders statement about Wind Turbines 'whizzing around in this wind'....Well, if its gets windy in this County, they turn them off! Or restrict them.. Coz it might damage them OR they get TOO loud! For real.. Not much use are they then? Rob

Re: Wind Turbines, they also turn them off because if they spin too fast birds can't see them and.....'splat...and the operators can actually be fined for chopping up the wrong kind of birds.....TRUE!

Oh, WOW! You can't get a more classic spectacular sea image than this - big waves, beautiful storm sky, the sun looking through a gap. This must be a storm coming my way (south Sweden). I hope your upper half and your lower half are still joined at the middle, considering the wind and you leaning against that rail. As for wind turbines, one blew down here the other week. So the question is, shut them down, or splat birds? Or have horrible problems with infra-noise (can cause severe headaches and other biological problems). This photo could do in any big photo gallery. You say you dared take some more? Please do show them, or your risk taking would have been in vain! Keep up the good work! :-)

Wonderful capture. Love the lighting and the stormy seas.

Fantastic capture. I can see you have some of those windtuebines that Prince Phillip doesn't like, which automatically makes me want to champion them. Fantastic light. Careful you don't get blown into the drink!

You have me picking my jaw up off the floor, my friend. This is outstanding! Composition and light are just stunning. Please tell me you kept your camera dry and away from blowing sand! LOL!
