Description

December 7th, 1941, Pearl Harbor was attacked... It was before my time, but still History called me to look back because of it's 70th Anniversary. As I looked through LIFE's photos, I came across an image I hadn't seen before. It was of Women with a Water Hose - them all working together from different races and regions - on a day when the world needed to get along - it grabbed my attention so much I had to make a memorial... To me, this picture of these women mean just as much if not more than the picture of the army men standing up the flag - which, my best friends Uncle was one of those men.... Here's to PEACE and the world coming together like these women... In hard Economic times we all need to be there for each other... and let's pray this madness never happens again. photos belong to LIFE magazine.

Sadly, it is the curse of man that we forget. As long as a few remember and make such images for the world to see, then all is not forgotten.

A wonderful collage you have created here to remember this very sad day in history. I too wish the world would all pull together and see what we could achieve with peace.

I thought the VERY SAME THING Mike!! The second I saw the image of the women fighting the fire, I thought of the men at Iwo Jima struggling to raise the American flag! Awesome collage my friend!

Yeah, I agree with you, Mike! That photo of the women belongs right beside the Iwo Jima flag, and the Firemen at Ground Zero in New York. There are certain images that just grab you by the heart, and this is one of them. I hope someday our species realizes the wasteful insanity of war, and pulls together to make this planet whole again. Not holding my breath, though...

The team women fighting the fire really chokes me up, and I see two women that look to be of Japanese descent and I wonder if they were rewarded with incarceration for the bravery? That is also a sad thing to remember, how the Japanese Americans and Canadians were so poorly treated whereas those of German and Austrian descent had no such draconian measures applied to them.

Fanastic mosiac of the famous photos of the day!!! In the lower right is the Pennsylavania and the destroyer Cassin and Downes. Hopefully I will get a chance to work that up in 3d sometime. They were in the 1010 area across the way from battleship row.

Superb memorial Mike! As usual, you've assembled a marvelous series of photos from that day, and shown us a side most of never see, the women of the war, the pulling together of humanity rather then the separation of race and religion .. Awesome too, that you chose to put the women right in the center. They had a big part in the war, more then people realize.

Wow! 70 years already! That's another era almost gone from living memory. I hope we don't forget that madness too soon. I'd like the human race to give WW III a miss, along with genocide and mass incarcerations and all the rest of that senseless horror. Great tribute Mike!

Excellent collage! Imperialism ( military, religious or economical )is unfortunately something that many human groups think as normal! If humanism could be so necessary for peoples happiness...

The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, founded in 1958, is dissolving December 31. The passage of time, the difficulty in finding chapter officers, and the health of its 2,700 members have taken their toll. In recent years, interpretation of the attack has shifted its focus "from engagement to peace," with recognition that both sides fought a "savage war", said Daniel A. Martinez, chief historian at the national monument. Martinez and other staff members have recorded video interviews with many veterans, preserving their memories. "They tell me stories they haven't told their families," he said.

yep indeed a fine tribute . recent intel says that it could have been avoided this particular chapter. but then some people "needed" and wanted this to happen i dont say no more but the facts can be looked up.
