Description

Second in a series ... This is a photograph I took a couple of summers ago, postworked in Photoshop and ArtRage. Using this technique in ArtRage is like a more sophisticated version of the smudge tool in Photoshop. There's no paint here, virtual or otherwise. I just moved the colored pixels around with a virtual pallet knife. Brigitte (blondeblurr) wanted to see the progression from photograph to finished product, so I've put together a piece that shows this image as well as the first in the series. You can see it HERE. Someone thought these should be in the "Photo Manipulation" genre, but when it comes to postwork, where does one draw the line? Levels, curves and sharpening are all photo manipulation ... it's a slippery slope. This is a single layer, a single photograph. I've got a couple more already done in this style ... they are WAY fun to do! Good thing there isn't a law against having a good time! :D

Great to see this fullsize, as I work backwards with my coffee! I love the way you say "I JUST moved the colored pixels around with a virtual pallet knife." HA! I just balanced this pingpong ball on my nose and cycled to the shops.

Good thing there isn't a law against having a good time! :D Trust me, Tara, somewhere someone is working on it! In the meantime, it seems you've mastered the technique (practice makes perfect?). I love this.

Whatever it is, it works beautifully. I really like that effect. Soft and delicate, it really adds a nice painting feeling indeed :)

I should have gone here first, before commenting on the post with the two (6) Irises ... (apologies for running a bit behind - no real excuse, just celebrating a birthday!) actually this Iris looks like, as if someone turned on the light ;) and now that the spotlight is on her, she breaks out into a song! impressive result, BB

In full size, this absolutely looks like an oil painting, Tara! This is exquisite! I just looked, and realized I hadn't reinstalled that delightful little application on my rebuilt computer. I shall remedy that right now. It's been forever since I've played with ArtRage. Thanks for the inspiration!

My Gosh Tara, this is soooo pretty!!! Art Rage huh? No Paint? How can you use Art Rage's pallet knife with no paint? I'd LOVE to know, because if this is the result, I gotta know! Seriously ... this is so pretty!
