Hi, I'm Marilyn.  I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile.  It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here.  I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends.  Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time.  Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!!  Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet.  You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long.  Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

Ooooo, would not have wanted to be standing under that crowd:) I was hoping to be able to name that bird...but on zooming in, I still can't tell. Might expect seagulls but they just don't quite have the right shape. But fine capture!

Yikes, you'd need an umbrella for sure! What a great sight, and I'll bet the sound was cool too!

Nice action image, like the way they are framed below the tree line!

Oh wow, Alfred Hitchcock, if he were alive, would be jumping for joy at the sight of these magnificent avians taking flight, Ms Marilyn! Whatever they are, they are most prolific. I have no idea as to their species, but you captured the scene magnificently.

I know exactly what these are...they're rare North Californian flying birds. Well...okay, I don't know exactly what they are, but I can always fake it. This is quite a stunning shot and it reminds me of the kinds of nature photographs I inhaled over the years, especially in my childhood days, when National Geographic exposed me to the sorts of wonders you just don't get in Chicago. I saw bats massing like this in the pages of that magazine, and it's something I'd love to eventually see in person, whether it's bats, birds, or even insects. Well, that many insects probably means really, seriously bad news for farmers, so maybe I'll just skip that particular interest. Anyway, enough rambling. This is a gorgeous shot! I like it a lot. I really like the foregrounded plant and the way it gives such a nice sense of depth (and the size of that flock!)

Nice action shot! I'll bet you enjoyed the sound of them all flying at once too.

So many! Nice!

Wow, a whole bunch of them. I'm sure they left their signature too. Aloha

LOL at Yellow Bellied Sapsuckers. That bird doesn't flock! :) It's too far away and the image compressed too much for me to tell you what they are. But if you have a closer shot, lay it on me! Great picture! The only birds I know that fly in huge flocks like that here are Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Brewer's Blackbirds, and Sandhill Cranes. Sandhill Cranes in a flock like that are impressive. They stand 4 feet high. European Starlings flock in numbers into the tens of thousands or more in places like England, but we don't get enough of them here for that.

Beautiful, congrats on the LWITG pick!
