Description

My Step-Mom got this phone over 50 years ago. she doesn't remember who or why, but she's had this for all this time. I fell in love with this and so I started gather information about it. Due to situations that I'd rather not discuss. I offered mom $75 for it and she agreed. Little did I know that she was going to give this phone to me for Christmas, as I was the ONLY one who expressed an interest in it. I, before Mom even agreed to sell the phone to me, ordered the hand crank. It arrieved and I installed it and cranked it over. It was wonderful!!! I've only to order the dry-cells that the phone need and then it is ready! and then I've got to figure out how to set it up to run on the current system. The Technical/historical information is: 1909 Western Electric Crank Phone 317.

A beautiful speciman. If you get it working don't forget to dial the operator and yell into the speaker "Hello Central? Get me Umatilla 46735. That's how they did it 100 years ago.

That is so cool! I'm thinking that it won't work on the current system as is, but might need modern components. You might want to check to see if there are any collectors or antique phone enthusiasts who might be able to give you some advice.

Mike... don't do it... you can't handle it.... the phone company will be calling you and charging you for many years of service that this phone racked up - can you imagine? lol .... I'd see what you could get for it as an antique and buy a new phone that looks like this - wiring might be faulty? Might short out when someone calls you and no one is home - it's old dude - there are reasons why we still don't have those types of phones, ya know?

Remind's me of the old gangster film's-The phone's always rang but there was no dial. The phones were connected directly to a operator who connected you to the number that you wanted-hence the reason why there was no dial
