Description

My Step-Mom got this phone over 50 years ago. she doesn't remember who or why, but she's had this for all this time. I fell in love with this and so I started gather information about it. Due to situations that I'd rather not discuss. I offered mom $75 for it and she agreed. Little did I know that she was going to give this phone to me for Christmas, as I was the ONLY one who expressed an interest in it. I, before Mom even agreed to sell the phone to me, ordered the hand crank. It arrieved and I installed it and cranked it over. It was wonderful!!! I've only to order the dry-cells that the phone need and then it is ready! and then I've got to figure out how to set it up to run on the current system. The Technical/historical information is: 1909 Western Electric Crank Phone 317.

Such a wonderful treasure Mike. Congrats on getting this little piece of history. I doubt that it can be hooked into the current digital systems, but that in no way takes away from its importance and beauty.

Nice ... I like these old technologies ... Much better than our over-breeded 'slic'-stuff ... Sometimes i'm missing a normal phone with a dial ... And without the shrilling-coloured apps ... Just a thing to talk ... Or an computer who doesn't need an net-account, a software that is on a floppy or dvd - and the serial is in the printed handbook, no need to activate the thing about the damned net ...

I do not think it would work in my neck of the woods. I think you turn the crank and say moshi moshi and wait for someone to answer in Japanese. I think you need an operator for these things and everything is automated today. Neat phone though
