Description

Today it is known as Angkor Wat, meaning "City Temple", a temple complex at Angkor, Cambodia, built for King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century as his state temple and capital city. Originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, it is now a Buddhist site. It is the world's largest religious building. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture. It has become a symbol of Cambodia and appears on its national flag. Inside the outer walls 3.6 kilometers (2.2 mi) long are three rectangular galleries, each raised above the next and covered with intricate and beautiful carvings.

That is the best picture of it I have ever seen. I have never seen it with the water in front. It's so peaceful looking. Perfect time of day for this shot. Did you plan that? Magnificent!

WOW 3,6km long. Many hands have created something great. There is space for many people to meditate. Reverence is spreading in me.

You went to Angkor Wat!?!?! I was a pale shade of green already, but now I could be in a St Patrick's day parade. Okay, I have swallowed my envy and can be civil again. What a gorgeous image! I love the framing of the branches and the reflections in the water. This would be beautiful with any reasonably pretty building there, but damn! Absolutely magical! This is really cool, Mark! I love it!

I didn't realise it was now Buddhist. I wonder how they cope with all the gorgeous sensual images. WONDERFUL and perfectly framed view!

That place is absolutely fascinating! If I were ever going to go to a tropical couuntry, that would be the one, simply to be able to walk around at Angkor Wat. What a fabulous image! You make me feel like I'm poised on the edge of a great adventure.
