Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

I've had views like this, but not with a camera in my hand. Fun shot. Glad you had a great B-day.

I don't think I wished you a happy birthday, yet. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! Oh how I remember Starsky and Hutch, too. My father had bought a 1972 Ford Ranchero, which many decades later, gave to our two sons when they got their driver's license, and they drove it to school. People could hear that one coming three blocks away. We finally had to sell it because it was a money pit. I love this picture, and the reference to S & H. Good old days. I agree with you about Jim Rockford's Firebird.

Birthdays are like that--they make you think of the oddest things. And it's ok, because on your birthday you can do anything you want, odd or not!1 Sounds like yours was just peachy though, as is this foto!!

We're all just setting you up for your 50th by being nice now. Just wait 'til all hell breaks loose next year and you get bombarded with the jokes and catcalls that come along with your 50th! Enjoy your year...waiting...waiting...it's coming...LOL!

49 is the new 29 without the painful pratfalls. Love the tangerine dream.

Soooooo,...how did you get this shot??? Expect you'll say you rolled the window down and stuck the camera out at arm's length and hit the shutter button. But we who know you and Chip can readily imagine Chip recommending you roll the window down, crawl out as far as your center of gravity will allow...him holding your feet...then hit the shutter button. Imagine the terrified reactions of the other drivers in your immediate area! Or did you actually experience it? lol. However you got this shot...it is a real eye-catcher...only to be improved if those surronding cars were Gran Torinos, Dodge Chargers, Firebirds and the like:) Amen to Whaleman's comment above...heh, heh, heh.

WONDERFUL IMAGE! PERFECTION AT WORK!

You and I are the same age, and having read your comments I am now lead to suspect that it might be an "age thing" that I'm currently revisiting my youth TV show-wise. In my case, it's Sapphire & Steel, UFO, Doctor Who, The Tomorrow People, Sky, Space 1999, Ace of Wands, as well as S & H, The Six Million Dollar Man, Fantasy Island, and a plethora of animated stuff like The Fantastic Four, X-Men, Spider-Man, Batman, Superman and others. And you are so right. They look the same, and yet different from a 30 year retrospective. Now to your image. I really like how many of your captures are so impromptu, and yet so perfectly centred and with such cool povs. Finally, a belated Happy Birthday, my friend, and have a great holiday and 2012!

I'm getting kind of an odd Quentin Tarantino vibe from this...rather like the kind of camera angle he'd utilize, while the soundtrack jiggles through--of all things--the Starsky&Hutch theme, in much the same way that a fragment of Ironsides played in Kill Bill whenever The Bride, played by Uma Thurman was about to kill one of the people on her list. I love this shot and how shiny everything is. If I remember correctly, I was in the process of dehydrating after copious amounts of Guinness Stout (good stuff.) As for TV shows, I remember Starsky and Hutch, but I was more of a Six Million Dollar Man and Space 1999 sort of kid, though there were reruns of Star Trek to hold my attention when I wasn't watching The Muppets. This is a brilliant shot. Hey...I should look for the Muppet Show on DVD!

Corey your pictures always amaze me, but your titles and comments make the shot each and every time the best one. Happy belated birthday!!!!
