Description

Lets call this one "Dreams in the Attic. Little Andreas was invited to his godfathers place, and as this was also his fathers birthplace the house was fairly old,and had lots of treasures for the little devil. One day he came upon the attic, his cousin forgot to lock the tiny door, almost invisible this door was, as it was in a corner and had the same tapisserie than the walls. And what a world he discovered,Tonzz of books, lots of them illustrated.wow……..this was the place where he would spend most of his vacation from now on.all his heroes became alive as he started reading and his imagination took over the control. Another chapter out of my childhood,I remember beeing in my godhathers place ( my fathers brother ) ,when I was 5-6 years old.there I got at least no beatings*,as my fathers brother was occupied beating his own wife lol( sad but true ) ,anyway I discovered a whole new world.i stumbled in the attic upon a ton of “illustrated classics”as they where called,I read ivanhoe, robin hood, treasure island, later on charles dickens and others when I was fairly young.and I spend a lot of time in the attic, maybe my fathers sister in law was glad that I was a quiet child and occupied with myself, she always made fine cooking and lots of times she gave me an extra chocolate, very nice woman indeed. Maybe that was the gift to me,as it shaped my brains and in the same time I was able to flee reality, along with the ability of writing and reading I was one of the best scholars indeed (no bragging).later on my father opened me his own library and I learned a lot reading history etc. I think when I was 6 santa decided to give me only books for xmas and not stupid robots and plastic toy weapons to shoot around and make noise-lol. I later had my phase in life when I played with robots and soldiers in my egoshooters…on the PC…..hehehe,and today I play daz studio And I still “steal”me an hour per day to read a real book “paper” you know??lol. By the way I saw this kindle ebook reader on the adds, anyone has experience with this gadget?? * one time my fathers mother slapped me that was the first and only time I ever saw the fat cow.i never forget it,and who knows what happened to my father in his youth.this shall not be an excuse for him,but helps me understand why he became the person he was later. thumb_2280616.jpghref> Andreas by Leije, merci beaucoup. Also thanks to arrogathor for the freebooks.

Marvelous image Rene, and thank you so much for sharing the insite into your childhood once more. Your ability to survive and even become all the stronger due to your upbringing is an inspiration to many reading this. I have never seen a kindle, but I do have an Ipad and they can work the same as an Ipad. Actually it is a good way to have right at your finger tips several books. So far on my Ipad I have 28 books downloaded on it and they actually take up only a miniscule amount of the available momory. If I wanted to carry all these books even in paperback with me I would need an awful large and heavy bag. Reading on the machine itself I thought at first would not be as pleasureable as holding an actual book, but that is not the case at all. The pages turn just like a book does, you can put a book mark any where you want so you can get back to a certain page. I also have several medical books downloaded for work, you can highlight any passage you want and also make notes as you go. I can see if they had this when I was still in university it would have been far better than having to carry 20 pounds of text books around campus. Also the cost is much smaller since there is no printing charges. One of the text books i bought this year for renodialysis in hardcopy costs $320.00. The electronic version costs 18.99, and also comes with links to training videos the hardcopy never could.

Süss & fluffy! Wenn ich meine Jugend verpixeln würde, bräuchte ich bestimmt 100 Grafiken und mehr, aber die kann ich hier niemanden zumuten!

Very cool image and story. My parents kept old newspapers in the attic. I remember reading the front page story of Robert Kennedy's assassination. They posted some pretty graphic photos!!!

A most tender walk down the dusty paths with you my friend.... I can relate to the childhood. My own father, a drunk and wife beater, was frightening to me and my 6 brothers and sisters. I applaud you for finding the escape possible in books, and having made the choice to not follow the wrong path into that darkness. seth

I used to real A LOT when I was younger, but it was half and half with my love of drawing. I did a lot of things when I was younger. But now I can't do all those things as I used to. Get a Kindle and not one of the other alternatives. Unfortunately I got one of the alterntatives called a Kobo Reader. It's not bad, but it's kinda limited as it can only really read in the epub format, which is not readable in the Kindle and vice-versa. Merry SpackoChristmas my friend!
