Believe it or not, they have actually changed the international dateline for SAMOA.
Now they are going to be the very FIRST to welcome in the NEW YEAR and not the last anymore, followed by NEW ZEALAND and then by us, in AUSTRALIA!
A little ahead of time, because we are living in your future - so, here is my take on it - 'Hello World' - here we go again and lets all stick it to the Mayans!

From what I understand we have till winter solstice till we have to worry. Also there is no mention of the end of the world so I think Auntie is right. A beautiful picture to bring in the new year. May yours be happy

well, I wanted to do some more of your older uploads---uploads I missed because I didn't know your gallery back then---and here I am. I realize you may not see the 'notifications' for a while, if you're not on RR for a while...but they'll be here when you come back. You got great comments on this: I picked it out because I loved the photo; but then I saw the comments (wonderful comments!). I don't understand the whole Samoa/New Year thing, but I'll leave that aside since it was several years ago. As for the New Year Pic---
beautiful! More of your innate sense of finding bold 'presence' in everything you shoot. I love the sun here---I hope that's the sun, 'cause if it's the moon, man, you got one overactive moon down there---and that line of clouds? Or maybe a plane exhaust trail? To die for! Great capture, great seeing. With the purple silhouettes of growth in the foreground, and a few layers of land in the background: It's simple, eloquent, mysterious, and beautiful. Terrific piece, Brigitte. You have an eye like no one else here, and I just love to see what you're gonna do next. Ditto to all the praises above.

I cannot believe [years later] that I took that picture, must have been lucky - LOL
