Description
Scanned from a 4X6 Matte finish photo.
My absence since the day after Christmas has been due to my computer monitor having a short coming. There is not a decent place to purchase such things on this isolated stretch of coastline. Was going down to Modesto to pick up a telephoto lens that had gotten repaired and so purchased a new monitor at the same time (12 hr. round trip drive time). Glad to be up and running again!
Although I'm not entirely content with the way the sky turned out in this scan(any input on how to correct with CS5 is welcome). I can not deny the beauty of the Queens castle and garden and so into the gallery it shall be. Not sure if I've mentioned the lower formations are called the garden, beginning at the shades of yellow and ochre and above are the ramparts and castle. From the POV below the rim here one can't distinguish the separation.
Wishing all the best in the coming year!
To the kind souls that leave their mark whether a comment, rating, or save the image as a fav, you are very much appreciated, thank you!!!

This is really wonderful Dana and the sky enhances it beautifully. Happy new year to you and all in your family.

You may want to try to improve the sky by filter/noise/despeckle and more than once will sometimes work better. You may just want to select the sky and leave the rest alone with the filter. It's a beautiful image with lots of potential. By the way, I live in Modesto. ;c)

These are stunning rock formations and they make a great castle. I hope you have a happy and prosperous new year and that you don't need to take many of those long drives in 2012.

A fine image to begin with Dana...but to answer your question, I copied your photo and opened it in Photoshop CS5. 1. I used the Magic Wand tool to select the sky...then cleaned that selection up with the Quick Selection+ tool. This selected all the blue for me. 2. I then went to Select in the top tool bar and saved the selection (the blue sky). 3. I then created a new Levels adjustment layer and chose Lighten Shadows...lightening the entire sky. 4. I then went back to Select and chose Inverse...this selected everything except the sky. 5. Now I darkened the Castle face and foreground using a new Levels adjustment layer and a new Curves adjustment layer. 6. As a last step I used the Lens Correction Filter and rotated the picture four degrees counterclockwise to straighten the overall image. I am not sure how much you've used CS5...but the entire process above took me about 7-8 minutes to do...and about 10 minutes to write up. Lol. I'd be happy to share the results with you if you'd like...just send me a sitemail and a regular email address and I'll send it directly to you. Hope I haven't overdone it:)

I sometimes have problems with blotchy skies, so I outline it and reduce the color or replace it with another sky completely.your top of the rock formation can be fudged a little and will not be noticed.I particularly have trouble with skies when using a watermark.so I do away with it or reduced the strength greatly still a beautiful capture for the mountain
