Description
I chose this one, my 500th image in my gallery to cheer the new year 2012. The room is the ground floor of the Modern Art Museum in Graz, a darkened room with somewhat disturbing installations, and the escalator went to the first floor (where, truth to be told, the artwork was only minimally less weird). The light to the end of the escalator seems a promise of a less disturbing future. I'm still resolute to be optimistic even if the new hail of taxes starts tomorrow.

it's always hard to return to your gallery, because I don't know where to start & because I need several sessions, not just one. (I hope to do just that.) I remember this when it went up, even though I wasn't commenting at the time. I have to tell you, you captured the feel of such a museum about as well as anyone could. Your postwork makes it all of a single exploration (and nightmarish too, in spots). The fullness of the capture make it a work of art itself---from ceiling to floor & through all the tangles of the installations, lights, etc. And that escalator: You've made it a journey to another world, with the strange green---(a prefect contrast to all those dark purples & blues etc---leading to a blast of white light: a kind of pop art/light-show ascent to another world. A terrific cacophony, nightmarish & confounding, while also mysterious, playful & inviting. A helluva way to invite-in the new year, with a mythic human journey from 'darkness to light'. (An expression from the Passover Hagadah.) Love it.
