Description

After many, many tries, I finally figured out what I had to do to get my Poser scenes to render in LuxRender. Not that they wouldn't; I just wasn't 'getting' what I need to do in Pose2Lux so that I didn't have weird glowing sections of my model and such. This is the first success and for the most part, I'm pleased. I REALLY love the way the hair rendered! Early on, I could see it was going to be lovely. A lot of the documentation for Lux and P2L uses terminology I don't understand. I'm not a photographer, and some of that nomenclature is used as well. I've no idea what fstop is!? Lux has sections for doing different things, like with the lights and the camera and other things, but I didn't change any of that, simply because I'm clueless as what they would be doing...or not doing. So, I just left all settings as they were. I'm not exactly happy with the way her skin turned out, though it's much better,IMO, than the way P8 renders it. I'm SO wanting ver. 2012, but just can't afford it, nor ver. 9. Her arms and hands look ok, but, to me, her face still looks a bit grainy. And this is after many, many, many hours of render. I don't recall how many, since I had to stop it several times because I just couldn't leave my pc running indefinitely. That's the only drawback with Lux, to me, but I think as I learn more about it and P2L (snarlygribbly is supposed to be redoing the manual for P2L and I hope it will soon be available and I'll be able to understand it!) Thanks for looking and sorry I've not posted anything in so long! Just wasn't happy with anything I tried! Offsite Credit: DNA Skydome was used with one infinite light

Great pic, glad I read it all, coz I was gonna mention the same. There's still something about the hair though - I watch quite a bit of 3D tv, and her hair messes with my eyes in exactly same way as that does without the glasses - kinda hard for me to focus on. Worth the hard work though, I can't see it taking long for you to get it spot on!

Thanks for the comment! I've never watched 3D anything, so I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I think I do...somewhat...lol! I'm going to sitemail SG and see if he can give me a little guidance with my renders.

Very nice. I gone through your Gallery and think you do much better with pure poser render than with Lux:)

Thank you, Petra. :) I've seen what can be done with Lux and since I can't afford the new Poser versions, I want to be able to get better skin than I've been getting lately. If I can't get the hang of these, then I'll just have to put more effort into P8 until if/when I can buy the new versions.

I love the pose! I'm using Poser7, so I'm way behind on all this lovely skin, lol. I agree with you the hair looks fantastic and the skin on her arms and hands are so realistic it's amazing.

Thanks, Cimaira! I'm going to try some different settings in P2L and see what results I get. So that means, it might be a while before I post something else.

Oh, and I'm wondering if maybe the makeup option had something to do with how her face didn't turn out as nicely as her arms. Eventually, I'll figure it out. :D

well...looks pretty good really.ok, some bits look over bright on the textures and not sure about the makeup...but then with all these render engines , Lux for poser and Reality for Daz you get variable results, it really does depend on the textures used by the vendor, it can have a dramatic effect on the results you get. Fstop by the way is the aperture (opening) on the camera lens i.e F/1 is wide open etc, it lets various amounts of light into the lens and controls depth of field ( i think,,LOL ) So basically as these render engines mimic real world lighting and the effect it has on all the elements in a scene, the more you tweek the settings the more the results differ !!!...( i think ..LOL ) Oh and one more thing. The render engines will just keep going and won't stop rendering until you tell it too....reality will go on till infinity if you let it, that's why you get such long render times.... hope that helps, oh and i like your pose and the hair looks superb :-)

Thanks so much for that, 2121! Actually, the pose isn't mine..lol. Forgot to mention that, and now I cannot remember whose it is! This was the start of a scene and I had planned (before I got Lux & P2L) to find something (maybe grapes?) to put in her hands. But I forgot about it until I decided to use her to test Lux.

Ah - the tribulations of LUX.I'm starting out too.Ian (2121) has covered the fstop thing well but it's not really required unless you're using depth of field which I can't get to work too well in LUX.Preta3D has some good tutorial videos on youtube which, although Daz specific, have some good pointers on using and modifying materials and textures.I think one of the really cool things about Luxrender is that you can turn anything into a light source - a simple plane can act like a soft box - I'm finding this to be better than using the standard 'sun'. As for those render times... Keep experimenting.

Hey MadameX, I finally finished writing my Pose2Lux tutorial! Sorry it took so long. It is now up on my website. I would love to see your renders! And please do let everyone know about my tutorial so I can help them out too. :)
