Description

...late afternoon, looking east... ...named by British Royal Navy Captain George Vancouver, June 10, 1792. ...in 1792 this area was in unclaimed territory. Today this area is in Washington State, USA. .......................................... ...Vancouver, feeling that he had been previously "deceived" (by weather and limited visibility) as to the true nature of this inner waterway wrote on his chart, "Deception Pass." ...he honored Sailing Master, Joseph Whidbey who found the passage while commanding a small-boat party of Vancouver's sailors, by naming the island to the south (right side of this image), "Whidbey". I love Deception Pass. It's such a fun place to hang out, look at the bridge, marvel at the speed at which the tide roars through there ... all in all it's a great spot. This is a most excellent photograph. Gorgeous shot!
