Description

...I am just a "babe in the woods" when it comes to postworking a raw digital image using PhotoShop CS5's Camera Raw 6 software...(new in our household one week ago). ...here is my first trial upload. ...I shot this image in raw back in June 2010. Upon downloading the image, much to my chagrin, I discovered that my earlier version of Photoshop (CS4) didn't recognize my camera. My camera was too new for the Camera Raw software in CS4. Something about algorithms...way over my head:-) ............................................ ...Denise (MrsRatbag) has been shooting everything in raw for the last month or two (right Denise?). She's inspired me to finally get to work and learn how to shoot and postwork using raw. ...a new challenge for a new year. Bill:) P.S. This shot needs to be zoomed to be fully appreciated. It looks like you are doing pretty good with the new software.I don't know anything about it,and I thought that "in the raw" meant something else.

Seems every software company is pimping stuff to work with raw files, as are the camera companies and most end users get familiar with just one method, so who can really tell? I shoot everything in raw then convert to highest quality jpg for post processing, and only go back to raw to make special files, like for a 24" × 36" print, say. That said, I work in a vacuum with no one else around remotely familiar with anything I do, and no one to give me any hands-on advice. Nice shot, by the way!

Looks like elderberry bushes. Beautiful shot. As for the technical stuff, I'm totally in the dark. Looks great to me.

Beautiful composition, with great range of color from deep black to various shades of green to light pink. Can't really comment on benefits of working with raw files...

Lush deep color in this RAW shot, Bill. Not that it matters much, but does RAW work with my old CS3? I have no idea how it works.

I'm afraid I don't know what a raw photo is but my imagination is running wild, do you run around in the nude taking photos or what.lol. If this is a sample of postworking a raw shot it is well worth the effort as the colouring and detail looks fabulous here.

Your shots are always excellent, but this is really stunning; what did you think about it when you saw it in Bridge? I think you're going to be really happy with the new direction!

Much better to shoot in raw. I initially started capturing in jpeg but switched very quickly as one can make much more adjustments in raw then in Jpeg. Enjoy the new editing programs Bill. Good first attempt. Blessed day and week. God Bless.

This is exquisite and even more impressive since my only knowledge of raw shots is limited to hearing the phrase every now and then. It always sounds to me like "raw" photographs are uncoooked or something, and thus, likely to pick up something like Salmonella with improper handling; I know this isn't the case, but "raw" and "bacteria" are always associated in my mind, simply because I happen to like bacteria (as long as they're not deciding to do things like utilize me as raw, nutritional material.) And as none of that has anything to do with this photo, I'll shut up. Well...not quite. I'll say that I love this photo and the richness is perfect! This is such a sensual photograph for me. I can virtually feel and even smell it and I love it when a form of art intended for one sense, stimulates the others, at least subjectively and this does that, perfectly! Brilliant work.

"Photoshop CS5? Gak! Cough! Choke!" - T.Rex makes bee-line to the bathroom. I don't even understand how Adobe can mess up Photoshop with these number-letter combination releases. I can't find any of my usual functions (much like the Microsoft Office mess) and it drives me up the wall! And a little work window, too. Now, where were we? Yes, .RAW files. Another new "toy" they try to get everyone to use. The file type is, in fact, old. Used in the printing industry, among other things. I don't see why this should suddenly be better than other previously common files. Apparently the concept is to hell with backwards compatibility in order to force people to buy new stuff all the time (as though everyone is made of money). And, to T.Rex, RAW means FOOD (preferably Froggy beach type!). But not when he's gagging! The photo looks good, but a bit grainy. End of rant (without rave). :-)

Well, from this image, it appears you're adapting very well, Bill! This is superb - wonderful color and mood! I'm going to have to give RAW a try one day - my Canon will shoot RAW, but I may have to jump through a hoop or 2 in postwork.. I'm working with PS7 - someday, I'll move up to CS5 (when my ship comes in....LOL).

I don't use RAW very often but sometimes for nice landscape shots it is very useful (especially if the lighting conditions are not so good).
