Description

This was taken in Washington State. To the north of this narrow passage is Fidalgo Island. so named for the spanish explorer , Lieutenant Salvador Fidalgo. To the south is Whidbey Island, second largest island in the contiguous 48 states, which Captain George Vancouver, while exploring this region in 1792, at first thought to be a peninsula. Further exploration conducted by him disclosed the existence of this intricate channel. Captain Vancouver felt deceived and gave the channel the name Deception Pass. He named the island after one of his officers, Joseph Whidbey.

I love this spot; I've never seen it fogged in like this, it's mysterious and gorgeous! B&W adds to the effect--well done!

Right on Ed! I've taken this same picture but probably later in the day and without this delicious fog. There are times when sun is nice but times when weather sets a tone...a mood...well done. When I see this pea-soup fog, it is little wonder that Vancouver didn't find this passage right away. The day we were there the visibility was unlimited.

What a wonderful photograph! The fog is superb. At first I thought, "Now why haven't I ever seen it this way?" And then I realized that the conversation goes, "Hey ... it's such a nice day ... let's drive up the island to Deception Pass!" LOL! Instant sunny day shots of this amazing bridge, no fog. This is absolutely outstanding. Excellent work, and b&w is perfect!
