I were young an' hot-headed, an' if anyone hurt me brothers, I was on it. The fact it were Dermit lyin' there bleedin' out made it worse," Beren sighed. "I tracked 'im down an' talked right into a trap...a nest o' vampires. Those days, I carried a silver sword. Silver don' hurt us wolves but it does kill vampires...dead. I managed ta slay the lesser ones but their master was a battle. 'E bit me twice. 'E were a slippery one thet one, wi' all 'is shiftin'. All the while I'm fightin' him, e's tellin' me thet I'm gonna be his private bodyguard an' he'd intentionally left Dermit as 'e was ta lure me there. He was certain he'd be ma master but I prevailed in the end there in the ruins. "All of a sudden, I started sweatin' cold-like an' feelin' strange. Dizzy. Ever'thing started spinnin' an' blurrin. Guess I blacked out. I knew thet if I di' nae feed I'd die. The lich were layin' maybe ten feet from me. His blood was ever'where. The smell of it filled me an' the wolf took over. I licked it up all of it I could. Ya di' nae see me fer a long after that, did ya Morgan?" "Nooo, we thought ya was dead," Morgan answered. "Heh," Beren laughed, "in a matter o' speakin' I am...but not as dead as Dermit," his golden eyes drifted to Angus' face, then fell to the table. "Sooo now ya know, brother. A fian aint invincible, but hard ta kill. Thet wolf-spirit will carry ya a long way. Tis what got Dermit back 'ere when 'e were mostly gone. Ya should join - both o' ya. Ye'll learn more that way." "Will ya witness for 'em, Beren?" Morgan asked. "Me?" "We are fiana until death. Connor ne'er said ya weren't one no more. He only told ya thet ya had ta leave...ya could 'nae stay like ya were."
