Hi! My name is Ed and I am just getting back in to photography. I have been taking pictures since the late 60's but kind of stopped for almost 30 years. I took mostly point and shoot pictures for years and decided to get back into a little more hands on photography.
I just got a Nikon D5100 with a 18-55mm lens and a 70-300mm Telephoto lens. I plan on getting some filter for both and doing a little experimentation with them.
I am interested in all types of photography, but lean towards landscape and trick photography. Â I also would like to try HDR in the future.Â
I would appreciate any feed back that I can get as this will help me fine tune my skills.
Unless stated, all photos are straight from the camera with no Photoshop manipulation.

Try all those filters Ed...it is a good experience. Some you'll really like, some not so much. If you get PhotoShop there are more filters that are free downloads that I can turn you on to... These allow you to stretch your creativity even further...and they are just plain fun to digifiddle with. I like this and am guessing you used a posterizing filter. Did you discover that you can also use a slider to decrease the effect to something less than 100%...sometimes 70% or 25% or you name it...will yield just the look that you'll like best. Filters often allow you to take a so-so photograph and turn it into something very appealing. Oh, and as Tara mentioned, we got the CD of the boys on Christmas day...thanks a million. Sure wish we were within driving range...glad you are. Thanks for thinking of us.

I like the result! This could easily be the north western part of South Africa!

Zoom is a must for this image. Wow. I liked it on the page, but in full view I LOVE it! The way you've kept (and yet eliminated) detail is wonderful. Terrific work!

Beautiful! You can get this effect in CS5 by using the darken mode with a blurred image over a sharp one, then cutting back on the layer's opacity until it looks how you like it. TMI? Oh, well, you did great with this!
