Description

Monument Rocks, Western Kansas. Do zoom. If you look closely you can find Bill, as well as our car, and get a sense of scale. Edit note: "That thing" in the middle-left of the picture is probably a little oil pumper. ................... Here's a side note for those of you who looked at Times Changed a week or so ago: Most of you have probably not seen western Kansas, and I wanted to show you this so you can see why that building wasn't being renovated and put to good use. The Alexander school sits in the middle of a landscape much like this one. The nearest grocery store is over 17 miles away. They say location is everything, and in the case of that beautiful and sturdy old building, it's certainly true!

OK - I'm gonna have to take a day trip to this place - that's just so cool! And that's one hellofa pano, Tara - excellent work on that! A pano is about the only way to give any idea of the vastness of a scene like this. I do see Bill and your car - and yes, that's an oil rocker in the middle left. There used to be one next to the golf course in Gardner, which is just west of KC.

Now this is an impressive pano! And a beautiful landscape! Love the explanation that comes with your image. That old school seems to be situated in a town! How photography can be deceptive hey! ,)

FANTASTIC! for me this view is so very special, Tara. An amazing landscape, very impressing. I can see all, you wrote about. And with a bit fantasy, I see a dog, right from he oil-pumper. Thanks for sharing, such stunning pic.

Wow, isn't that fantastic. All that's left of a once higher Great Plains surface! I never knew this occured in Kansas, are there more like them? It need not be pointed out but I will anyway that you really captured the magnificent sweep of the prairies here. The extreme off centered view reall adds to the sense of vastness while the road leads you right into the scene. Great composition and fine shooting. Shows why you are Photographer of the Year.

From the thumbnail I thought these were ruins. The fact that this is a rock formation is ven more unusual, just sitting there all by itself on the planes. A great pano. Your explanation about the old school house illustrates well how parts of the middle of our country are being hollowed out.

One heck of a sandcastle! The panoramic view is superb, Bill so small as a reference of scale. Very zoom worthy! Clive
