Description

Another one taken surreptitiously at the Hazrat Ali Shrine in Mazar-e-Sharif. While the Afghan men are usually very happy to pose for you, where their religion is concerned, I am not so sure about that. You take pictures here at your own risk. Some see even your very presence on these grounds as an insult. I am sure that they are in the minority, but this is a large crowd and you don't want them to turn on you. The problem is that in case of an objection, no one usually dares to stand against hard-liners, for fear of appearing to take sides with an infidel. It's complicated. More of my recent travel pics, as always at cosmic-pearl.com

Surreptitiously shot: The way it's done, in this case, camera hanging from the neck, hand casually resting on it (finger on the trigger), seeing something that should be seen, turning toward it and click - hoping for the best. I can't always control the angle that way, so this is as good as it gets.

One more thing, that I think needs to be said: I have been doing photography for a long time, and that doesn't mean a thing. Here, I am just sharing a few of the more interesting moments from my most recent travel. That doesn't make me an artist, much less a favorite artist. That's why I stay away from Renderosity for long periods of time. I have my own website, in any case. I don't want to get into the whole friends and favorite business. I used to, for a while, but think that there are way better talents around who would enjoy and deserve such honors. I truly appreciate the sentiment, but that's not why I show these pics, e.g. begging for ratings or comments, or being someone's favorite. I reject the whole ratings nonsense. It's totally corrupt, IMO. In fact, I often contemplate to not even allow comments. Things get too complicated that way, IMO. All I want to do is to show a few images and go away again, for a long time, until there is something else I feel I want to share. I am doing this for my own enjoyment. Just by you stopping by to look, I am fully rewarded. Please don't take this the wrong way. :)

The guy on the left doesn't look like he's real happy you're there! I can see why you would be cautious. Tilt usually bothers me, unless it's obviously intentional, but in this case it adds to the flavor of the image.

He's probably the guy who just tiled this shrine and wants to make sure you don't slip on a moist spot and then sue them...LOL ! Kidding aside, pretty awesome handy work and some rather brave photography...take care now Karl ! ~Cheers~
