Description

The Ocotillo (Fouquieria splendens) is a spindly plant that looks like a bunch of dry sticks, spreading upward and outward from the base, with thorns, for most of the year. It is drought-deciduous, which means it drops its leaves when it hasn't rained for awhile. When it does rain, the plant leafs out. The new leaves will leave new thorns behind when they drop off. These are leaf buds, and you can see the base of the old thorns as well. I was just playing around with my new macro lens, taking pictures of whatever I saw.
