Description
This is one of the Tillandsias ( Airplants ) I grow, the plant forms small clumps and when not in flower is a green grey colour with whitish scales all over the leaves, these scales help absorb food and water directly into the leaf, any roots just hold them onto a branch or rock.
This bright red colour in the leaves only appears when the plant comes into flower and the dark purple flowers appear one after another from the centre.
The plant is about 50-60 mm tall and is related to Pineapples.

Beautiful color combination Alan - south Florida's version is a dull green year round with an occasional red 'branch' extending out.
