Description

Again shot in North Melbourne Australia. Visible here is the Southern Star Observation Wheel. She is the notorious lovechild of the London Eye in England.......and the 'Cone Of Silence' from Get Smart!!!!!! It developed structural faults soon after completion and had to be demolished. It has had MANY other problems since and is still in the process of being rebuilt. The whole debacle has caused the surrounding businesses much grief. They moved close to it because of the huge tourist traffic it promised to bring. Many have closed waiting for it to recover. I traveled on it days before it originally collapsed and I must admit it was great fun. See below. INSIDE OUTSIDE THE PODS THE ORIGINAL SUPERSTRUCTURE

Excellent capture! Too bad it has troubles, because it has a beautiful design. I saw your links and it is really great. The pods are quite big.God idea include the family for scaling!

Love the huge amount of things happening in this. Goods train, passenger train, the buildings in the background and the detail on the wheel. Great work.

Thanks for the links to your earlier shots, that one inside shot is amazing! I must say, I look at the entire structure and say to myself "What could go wrong here?" and I think of too many things. Probably just making excuses to avoid those startling heights, LOL! Today's shot is good too and people should zoom!

Did you not read about the poster's they are putting up on public toilet's in Australia. It was mentioned in the new's yesterday. It is a printed poster showing your Tourist's??? how to use the toilet correctly. Not to stand on but how to sit...

Great shot Andrew. I feel like I have seen this scene, but the only time I came through Melbourne was on my way home and the reason was that I flew back on an Airbus 380-800, so I never left the airport. I went to Adelaide instead where I met someone that is a relative of a post member (Veterans of Foreign Wars - Post 6310, Tolleson, Arizona). He was an Aussie Special Forces guy who had served in Vietnam and Rhodesia. I liked Adelaide and realized that there is a certain rivaslry between the states and cities. For instance, the Formula 1 race used to be held in Adelaide, now it is held in Melbourne. I think some South Australians still resent that change of venue. As to your story about these two people that were accidentally left on the reef? I never thought about that possibility, but I know that it is practically impossible to make it back on your own. One cannot see the coast, or if the dark line on the horizon is the coast, it is the mountains. It took us over an hour to come back. But the experience was fantastic, I could justify learning how to scuba dive just for that. I am glad I did it and the pictures I took don't come close to the real think. The crew of our dive boat was very concientious about safety, with at least one man sitting on top of the deck and watching the people in the water and a few additional crew diving with us. It was fabulous!!
