Description


Castilleja exserta. This is probably my favorite annual wildflower. The reason is the rich purple color. Also, it is very hard to find, even after good rains. I have never seen more than a small patch of them, though I have seen photos of hillsides covered with them. I found these on the road between the turnoff to Kitt Peak, and Ajo, Arizona.
